Wife expecting a baby...

Postby Guest » March 26th, 2003, 7:35 am

We are expecting our 2nd child and wondered if anyone has any ideas to announce it thru a magic effect to family and friends.

Help!

Well I wouldn't. You cannot beat *that* magic.

How about Goshman's sponge balls and "thingie" trick? :D

Or how about some sort of effect with blank cards that spell a message?

Act as though you are going to produce a rabbit from hat, but "the rabbit died" (bring out a "dead" one?). Does this mean anything to people today?

What about that effect where you drape a towel over your feet, step aside, and a shoe has appeared there? Surely your wife could modify this with the baby during delivery . . . .

How about a McCombical Deck style of a trick...You are going to predict a future event...blah blah blah...and the prediction matches!!!

In performance, perhaps you could do a trick with name faced cards. maybe have your wife take two.. then show the names match the people. And when they ask 'who is so and so?'... :)

Why tarnish a wonderful event with something as corny as a magic trick?

Well, the "Baby Gag" or Max Maven's "Infantastic" are equally tasteless.

I think there are a couple of things you could do that are appropriate.

First, you could produce a cigar (possibly a chocolate cigar) to give to a friend. Cigars are (were) common to give out in celebration of a newborn baby. At least, I knew people that passed out chocolate cigars. You can make the production very quick, and move on to talking about the important things about the baby, like how the baby and mother are doing. I think the cigar productions are described in a lot of places. John Carney describes an entire routine that begins with pulling a cigar from a very small coin purse--using just that production may work.

Next, you said that you want to announce the birth. Maybe some sort of magical card? I'm not quite sure here, but a card with an optical illusion, or something clever about it, but not so clever that it takes away from the birth announcement.

I'm with Pete. I feel the same whenever I see someone asking for a routine to propose.
