The Ash Trick

Postby Guest » October 18th, 2002, 5:58 am

Years ago, drunk, in a pub, I did the ash trick on a non magician.
"No - that's not the way to do it," he said, and proceeded to show me a great presentation.
And of course the next morning i couldn't remember it.
But ever since I've alway been on the look out for, if not that one, then other great presentations of that trick....

So - what are your's?

Check out Eugene Burger's presentation, which can be found in Mastering the Art of Magic. He also performs in on Groumet Close-up. Very nice presentation based on Voodoo.

One way I present it is to show the woman how the veins on the back of here hand show up, and as a photographer one of the things we do when photographing hands is to have them hold the hand high over their head (which I have them do) saying that the blood leaves the hand, when they bring the hand down I say "see, the veins are not sticking up and don't show" and shoot the picture.

With the magic I say "the ashes on the back of your hand followed the blood, but when you brought your hand back down, they came down on the others side.... LOOK."

They turn the hand over and the ashes are on the inside.

This works for me.

Sankey has a version that's perfect for bars and pool halls using cue-chalk on one of his tapes. I think it was the tape after that other tape where he did the trick with the cards...
