BIG NEWS: Mike Close Joins Genii in October!

Postby Richard Kaufman » August 3rd, 2005, 12:00 pm

I'm very pleased to announce that Michael Close will be joining the staff of Genii with the October issue, when his first book review column will appear. Mike will review books in rotation with Jamy Swiss and Eric Mead.

Excellent news! After reading every single review (yes all of them) on his compendium CD, I relish the prospect of more.

Remember the end of Workers 5? "We'll do this again...sometime."

Looking forward to it!

That's great news.

Could there ever be a circumstance in which all three could review the same book?

For instance, I'd love to hear each reviewer's thoughts on THE MAGICIAN AND THE CARD SHARP

That would be interesting. Three pages of review. Two for Jamy and a half page each for the others. :)

To answer all your posts of concern, I'm moving to the products section to lessen my load. Congratulations, Mike - I'm looking forward to your column...and Richard's a lucky guy.

Mr. Swiss writes two-page book reviews? :D

David, thanks for your past book review contributions. I found your take on things very helpful. Heck, I like the way your mind works. I look forward to the same attention you will give to the tricks.

What great news! I loved Mike's reviews in Magic Magazine. They were always spot-on and well written. The new reviewers at Magic Magazine could really learn a thing or two from him with regards to what makes a review useful to the reader.

This is huge! I admit, I've been reading Magic longer than Genii. In recent years Genii has become THE magazine to read in our field. I enjoyed Mike's reviews and am not crazy about their new system. There's something about having someone you know and are familiar with. Not that Mike and are are bosom buddies, but once I read someone's column monthly for years, I feel that way and trust their judgement. I like the rotation feel, but the new system for Magic seems kinda haphazard. Different people every month. Way to go Richard, cant's wait!
And I too would love to see a joint column by Jamy and Michael.

This is really excellent news!

I was hoping Mike wasn't really retiring from reviewing.
