Do you know if he got permission from Hiro Sakai to include the thumb through the ear? I was hoping to have that to myself a bit longer.

Amazon is shipping. I received my copy yesterday and it's great. There are plenty of laughs in the writing as well as in the head gags.

I've not seen Mac's book yet. In regards to thumb thru the ear: It's credited to Taro Fujimoto in Shigeo Futagawa's 1997 lecture notes. It's called "Thumb-Piercing" and is illustrated on the back page of the notes.

I actually saw Hiro Sakai explain it in lecture at one of the first World Magic Summits in Washington D.C. (Probably early to mid 90's). At that time he explained that it was something that practically every child in Japan knew about.
