Mr. Schneider's Wedding Ring Thing

Those interested in Mr. Schneider's excellent little "Wedding Ring Thing" routine may also be interested to compare and contrast it with Michael Weber's "Five-cent Ring On Stick" from his book "Lifesavers".

Wow,

I checked and they are close to identical. I am sure, considering the reputations of both creators, that this was independent creation on both their parts.

But didn't Richard Kaufman publish the Weber book?

I guess you can't remember every trick in the book, even if you published it!

This incidence of independent creation was brought to our attention very soon after the July issue went out and a crediting correction will appear in the next possible issue (Im not sure if it made the deadline for August, but it will certainly have made September).

Opps.
Just got back and getting recovered from the 2006 SAM.
Richard informed me that someone else had the nickel thing out already. (That being M Weber)I am embarassed. I also have it in my latest book, Off-n-More. I got the idea because I was about to buy an extra ring for the routine when I relaized that a nickel would do just as well. As normal I was pleased with myself. However, it seems Mr. Weber was there a long time before me.

Now I have a problem. Should I remove the trick from my book or supply appropriate credit?

I'll talk about the book elsewhere.

I've published 85 books. Not only can I not remember everything in the books, I can't even remember what all the books are!

Probably the best thing to do would be to ask Mr. Weber.

To Whom It May Concern

Having finally recovered from the 2006 SAM convention, and having sold my first few Off-n-More books, I have updated the book to reflect the fact that Michael Weber came up with the concept used in his ring on stick rouitne in Lifesavers long ago.

After a small discussion via email, he felt including a comment in my book about that would be the wisest thing to do.

I am proud to incude his name in my book.

I also appreciate the comments forwarded by those posting on this thread.

Both of you gentlemen are certainly among the "good ones".
