December Issue of Genii with John Thompson Cover Now Arriving

Postby Danny Archer » November 17th, 2007, 2:51 pm

David Regal did a fantastic job with his interview of Johnny and Pam... there were so many fascinating stories (and pix) about his career and his ups and downs and his wonderful friends...

I'm sure the article could have been five times as long and Johnny would still have tales left to tell...

hats off to all who helped bring this great story to the pages of Genii...

Yes, it's true: people are starting to receive the December issue already. Perhaps the mail service will be better this month?

In addition to a nice long piece on John Thompson, there's also a preview of all the 2008 Tenyo items, a story on magic jewelery, and more.

Once again, the article was too short.

Kudo's to David Regal and Genii for the Thompson interview.

Maybe they could do what Jamy Ian Swiss did when he interviewed Derren Brown. Jamy put the whole interview, including the parts that didnt make that issue of Genii magazine, on his website. It was a great interview. I even printed it out and put it in magic book collection. Maybe Johnny Thompson could put parts of the interview that didnt make Genii on his website. Just an idea.

My copy arrived this past Thursday. Congrats to Mr. Regal and Genii for a marvelous interview. I too would have liked it to go on for much longer.

An extended interview with Pam Thompson would also, methinks, be a delight.

I picked up my copy yesterday and David Regal did a wonderful job of catching Johnny's spirit on the printed page.

Thanks for sharing John, you are amazing!

December arrived here on 11/20/2007, reminding me to give devout thanks for people such as John and Pam for helping counterbalance this absurd world. Thanks also to RK and Mr. Regal . . .

Wow, two of my friends on the cover, first Pete and now Johnny.

Thanks for 9 years of Genii on time or early Richard. While I do miss the west coast/Larsen diaries, Genii is in good hands until we get old and gray.

Received issue and loved the Thompson story. Very nice job David. Nice relaxed flow to it and read almost like being there having the conversation with Johnny.

Stan Allen tells me that, in his experience, second class mail usually moves more quickly in late November and December than in the preceding months.

What a great issue. David Regal really did a wonderful job wringing some terrific stories out of a master. What Johnny probably thinks was his mundane, day to day life as a professional performer is just fascinating. He has been a success in so many facets of show business, more than most of us can even aspire to. How soon can you do a follow up? We want more stories!

Am I missing something, or is Davids hearing defective when Mr. Thompson refers to Palos Park Illinois as "Payless?"

Could be--that's why we let the subject go over the interview and fact check it. If it's in there, you can blame that one on Johnny, not David. :)

In addition to how informative the interview is, it's high entertainment. I was laughing out loud at David's amusement at the popularity of harmonica music. And there were bits I'd love to have heard more about, such as 1. Lance's son is into magic? and 2. There exists a video of Les Sorcery? Love to see it.

The original interview was about 10,000 to 11,000 words longer than what we published in Genii. Regal and I cut it down to what we felt was a good size--one that you could read without looking ahead to see how many more pages there are to go.

Richard, is there anyway you could post the full interview before it was trimmed for magazine length? I would love to read it. I can never get enough of Johnny Thompson. David Regal is a great interviewer.
