A Famous Actor

Postby Pete McCabe » September 21st, 2001, 2:06 am

A photo caption on page 52 of the 10/1 Genii says:
White House Correspondents Dinner
Right to Left: Dule Hill, Steve, and a famous actor

I believe the famous actor in question is John Spencer, who plays Chief of Staff Leo McGarry on "The West Wing." Dule Hill plays alongside John, as the President's Personal Assistant Charlie Young.

That was indeed John Spencer, who is generally considered one of the lead actors of the series, along with Martin Sheen.

John and I waited tables together in NYC back in my acting days 20 years ago. My brief brush with that little corner of fame. I feel a bit protective of the reputation of my close personal friend JS. (Who wouldn't now know me from Adam and whom I haven't seen since 1980.)

I believe the famous actor in question is John Spencer...

That should be 'and an actor who is no where near as famous as he deserves to be.'
John Spencer is the shining star of West Wing and when you're the best of that cast well...

I don't watch TV much (who has the time!) so when that face came up in the photo, I had no idea who it was. Neither did Steve Cohen.
It's just one of those little details that we ran out of time to deal with before going to press.

Way off topic, but perhaps of interest, many years ago I baby sat for Martin Sheen. That is, I watched his kids, Emilio and Charlie. Martin was, way back then, a helluva nice guy (as was his wife), and I'm sure he still is.

I also graduated from NYU Film/TV grad school with a guy named Martin Scorsese, but that's another story.

Matt,

When I first read your post, I thought it said that you baby sat Martin Sheen. Then I was trying to guess your age. I am glad I reread it. :D

So if magician Ryan Matney gets caught in a photo, he's got no chance of a mention since he is only a bit-part actor.

Andy,
I thought we agreed that after our settlement you would burn those photos I was "Caught" in.
