Card cheating footage

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

Card cheating footage

Postby Jason England » August 26th, 2008, 7:01 am

Does anyone here know the identity of the "unknown" card mechanic that is shown in a brief (maybe 10 minutes or so) clip doing breakoffs, second and bottom deals (bottom deal has some finger flash), false shuffle and some hops/shifts?

I believe the name that is listed at the beginning of the clip is "Santana," but I have no further information. The clip is B&W, and appears to have been shot in the 50s or 60s.

Any help would be great.

It has circulated privately on VHS (and more recently on DVD) for many years.

Hmm.. can't help much then as I haven't seen it. Given the lack of response to the inquiry.. I assume few if any others here have as well. Anyone wanna pass it on for digital conversions which might then inspire further discussion?

It's definitely not John Scarne, it's not Artanis, it's not Jim Cooper.

We know what all of those men look like. This guy is a mystery, yet he had good chops and did quite a bit of stuff.

It's probably Frank Thompson, or that guy who owned Magic Inc before Jay Marshall.

I don't think it was Frank Thompson, I couldn't smell the Rum River Crook Cigar.

I'll tell you this -- it's not me.

I don't know how much that helps, though.

There are a few guys that come to mind. A guy named Ray Murray, or Trellis Dinsmore???? Both were terrific bust out guys.

If you post a link to it I may be able to identify it. I have a copy of a book on blackjack cheating that a another (Las Vegas)guy wrote with pictures. I will look it up and post the name.

Another real talented guy that would fit the era would be Mike Sarkis.

That other guy? Do you mean Frances' husband? That guy from "Ireland"? Well, anything is possible...

Frank Shields did some film in the 60's - could be him...

after all these years, do we know who is the guy on that video? Is there any footage of Artanis or F Thompson maybe?
