Eye Wonder ebook on Jerry Andrus now on iTunes

Postby Todd R Reis » December 31st, 2012, 5:17 pm

My friend Al Seckel is an authority on optical illusions. More specifically he has recently made his Eye Wonder ebook on magician Jerry Andrus available on iTunes.

Is there any way to view this on a PC or an Android tablet?

There are DRM removal tools available for iBooks. Google is your friend.

Has nothing to do with DRM... it's not an ePub but in iBook format.

It has everything to do with DRM. The iBook format can be read on numerous platforms, including the Kindle. It is ONLY the DRM that prevents someone from reading this on a non-ios device.

Sorry, but you are confusing the ePub format which is used by most books in the iBookstore with the iBook format which is created with iBook Author and requires the iBook app on the iPad.

As one example, the Magicscroll app in Crome will read non-DRM iBooks.

I believe iBook format is based upon the ePub format but depends upon custom widget code in the iBooks app to handle the DRM.

Books sold in the iBookstore can be in one of two formats: EPUB or iBook.

Most books on the store are in ePub format (.epub) which, if the DRM option is not selected by the publisher, can be read on other platforms.

Books in the iBook format (.ibooks) were created with iBooks Author and are in a format that is an extended form of ePub that requires the iBooks app.
You were close Joe in that part of the difference is the widgets that can be in an iBook but they're there for interactivity not DRM.

The Eye Wonder book is in .ibooks format, not .epub.

Thanks for mentioning this Todd, I see that Al Seckel has a couple of other books (also in .ibooks format) about optical illusions too. Nice.

I don't have an iPad. But I really wanted to read this ebook. So I went ahead and bought it, hoping I could find some kind of work-around so that I can read it on my PC.

So far I haven't had any success.

Bummer.

Thanks for all the interest in this post. There is also a Facebook page for Eye Wonder Books which you can Like.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Eye-Wonder-Books

By the way,the title is only $2.99, and was priced that way so that people could enjoy it for a minimal amount, and there was a lot of work involved in putting together, and they should respect that. In the same way, that people should respect the "magician's code."

Further, all titles will be available on multiple formats and in various languages, and it is in process now of being converted. If they want to know the release date for each title, they need to subscribe to the website: www.eyewonderbooks.com. Then, they will be instantly notified when all titles are available in the different formats, and a lot of cool stuff is coming!

I bought the book and viewed it on my wife's iPad. It is really well done, and has some great footage and interview material. Al Seckel has done a nice service to some of Andrus' optical wonders.
