Who are your favorite "innocent appearing" magicians?
That recent thread on Tamariz got me thinking...
Part of what I think makes Tamariz effective is that based on a first impression (manic, older fellow--to paraphrase Dustin), you'd never think he'd fool you so badly.
The perfoming personas of Bro. John Hamman (quiet, Midwest gentleman), Bob Sheets (fun loving, jovial, clumsy guy) are completely different; yet, they also come to mind as guys you'd never suspect are devious geniuses.
They are much different from a Darwin Ortiz, Derek Dingle, Martin Nash, Michael Skinner, etc. You pretty much expect to be fooled by those guys from the get go.
So..who are your favorite magicians whose performing personalities most greatly belie their skill and cunning?

Two more I'll add are Dani DaOrtiz and Lennart Green.
Dani does it in much the same way as Juan Tamariz only as a younger "Fat Brother" in the Spanish school.
Lennart has taken the "bumbler" magician to a whole new level. A big part of Lennart's magic for me is that he can appear to be a bumbler and then hit you right between the eyes with some major fooling - but then, moments later, manage to go right back to being a very convincing bumbler to the point where he gets me to drop my guard and then fool me very badly again. And he does this over and over again. With Lennart, it's fool me twice, thrice, four times, five times & more:"shame on me" - and I love it!

IN many respects, David Williamson meets the criteria.

Mike Caveney - "I've been fooled by an idiot!" and Pit Hartling could be thrown in there.

Tom Mullica's character driven magic was very disarming.

Agreed.
Mullica was one of the most entertaining comedy magicians.

IMHO, Hollingworth's high skill level seems congruent with his proper English gentleman performing character.

I personally like Bro.John Hamman and tricks he plays are amazing. I like the way he handles the pack of cards. I agree with his saying "Magic happens not in the hands of the performer, but in the minds of the spectators". He is a great entertainer.

Maybe it's his boyishness.

Norman Beck seemed pretty innocent the time I saw him. Fooled the heck out of everybody in the room.

Bill Goldman is another excellent example. Funny that he and Bob Sheets (see above) share a birthday!
Go practice.

Dani DaOrtiz, Woody Aragon and Juan of course! I mean really most magicians are fairly innocent, what would make someone not innocent??
If someone came up to me in a top hat and cape, that could be innocent because I wouldnt expect to be fooled. Does that make sense?
