Volunteers Needed by Genii! Comp Subscriptions in Exchange for a Little Work

Postby Richard Kaufman » November 28th, 2012, 4:29 pm

For those of you who have used iGenii and gone into Ask Alexander to look at the 75 years of back issues, you know that it's a chore because the file is only broken up by volume, not by issue.

Our Chief Guru in this area, Mr. Smith, has now created a software program that will fix the problem.

But, first we need your help.

We need to have a spreadsheet generated by a volunteer that indicates what pages make up each volume. More volunteers will reduce the workload all around.

What does this work require? Downloading each volume of Genii and paging through the PDF to find the page numbers where each issue starts and ends.

When the volunteer has completed spreadsheets for all the volumes, they send the spreadsheets to me and the program will then break the volume into issues.

This will allow anyone using the system in the future to access individual issues rather than having to page through entire volumes to find something.

Creating the spreadsheet requires about 20 minutes per volume.

The rules are this: if you are going to volunteer, I have to already know you in some way (even if we've never met face to face).

The bonus is this: For each 10 volumes that you do (approx 200 minutes of your time, just over 3 hours) I will comp your subscription to Genii for 2 years and allow you to chose one of my books as a gift.

Please email me at moobooks@verizon.net if you're interested.

If you need anyone else I can offer assistance as well. We don't really know each other but I've had a number of contributions rejected for inclusion. Does that count? ;)

If you can wait until 12/22-1/2, I will be off from work and can contribute.

I just noticed that 90+ percent of Vol. 17 isn't searchable. They probably just need to run the pdf images through their OCR program and re-upload them. It's 500+ pages that don't currently come up on search.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered. We have enough people now to perform our important task. If I have contacted you, then you will be called to duty. If not, you're off the hook for the moment. :)

Thanks!

Thank you gentlemen, the task has been completed. Very shortly all issue of Genii should be separated on Ask Alexander. I'll make an announcement at the time.

Hey Richard,

Doubt you know me lol But, if I can ever be of help, it would be an honor to support Genii.

Well wishes,
