1000 Yen Restoration (Hiro Sakai)

Postby Scott Martell » December 4th, 2012, 5:32 pm

Timothy Wenk's classic, 'Misled' has gained popularity among performers ever since Copperfield featured it in his show. The visual and audio conviction in this routine kills.

I've found several impromptu penetration effects from Dan Harlan, David Harkey, Jay Sankey and Daniel Garcia. The one handling that has my attention is called 'Invisible Slit' by Hiro Sakai, (The Minotaur Magazine). I've played around with this concept and created my own handling.

However, it appears that a revised, improved version of this effect has been released by Mr. Sakai titled, 1000 Yen Restoration. Does anyone know where I can find this in print?

Your help is Much Appreciated!

You're talking about routines that were popular 20 years ago.

Yes indeed Mr. Kaufman, the routines mentioned above are a bit dated.
Since I was 5 years old when they were initially discussed, I missed the first go around unfortunately.

However, thanks to contributors such as yourself, I can and do enjoy revisiting past ideas.

I hope some person is feeling nostalgic and can give reference to Mr. Sakai's - 1000 Yen Restoration. A book, article or link??

I wrote to Sakai and asked him. If he replies, I'll let you know.

It is published in a couple of his Japanese lecture notes (one being 1992's "Fascination"), also in the 1994 issue from the Tenkai Prize Committee, "Tenkai Prize a la Hiro," and also performed and taught on his DVD, "Idea World V."

All of those sources sound like they're in Japanese to me. True?
Evan, you certainly know your Japanese literature!

Yes, they are (in Japanese), and the notes are pretty much impossible to find these days. Your best bet is to pick up a copy of the DVD. Still shows as "available" on Sakai-san's web site (probably not for long... :) ).
