Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (December 2012)

Postby Dustin Stinett » December 1st, 2012, 4:42 pm

The Holidays are a magical time for the Magic Castle. The old mansion is decorated from the basement to the tips of its turrets. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, or the Winter Solstice, the Castle is the place to be! And, for the New Year, if Las Vegas is your desire, the Castle will fill that need as well!

Keep in mind that this is also a very busy period for the Magic Castle. There are many group events happening throughout the month, so even non-dining walk-ins might run into space issues (yes, even on those slow week nights). Please call ahead even if you only want to drop by for drinks and magic!

Readin, Ritin, Regal, and Wilmore

Youre doin the Readin part right now. The Ritin, Regal, and Wilmore part is on December 5 at 8 PM in the Peller Theater. David Regal and Larry Wilmore will present a Members Only Perk on writing for magic effects. David Regal is the Prince of the Premise (if you ask me anyway) and thats just one of the many subjects that will be covered at this valuable perk put on by these two very talented men.

Here Comes Santa Claus!

Santa and his elves will be visiting the Castle on December 8 starting at 11 AM in the Inner Circle. Castle members and their families can join the fun of making ornaments, enjoy having their faces painted, and make stuffed animals and toys. There is also a raffle for prizes. A grand prize from Toys 'R' Us will be given away! No RSVP required. (Toys For Tots will be accepting new, unwrapped, toy donations as well. Tis the season of giving!)

Speaking of Giving

The Castles Outreach Committee is collecting new and (clean) used blankets for the California Hospital
Medical Center which in turn gives them to families that are experiencing financial difficulties (the hospital has adopted over 1,000 families). When you arrive at the Castle, let the valet know that you have blankets with you to donate.

Yummy for the Tummy and Fund Friendly

The Members Menu specials for December are:

December 3, 4, & 5: Thai Beef with Noodles
December 10, 11, & 12: Stir-Fried Shrimp with Scallions and Steamed Rice
December 17, 18, & 19: Turkey Pot Pie
December 26 & 31: Magic Castle Lasagna

Lunch Time!

Note that the Magic Castle is open for lunch (11 AM to 2 PM) Monday through Friday the week of December 17. Call ahead for reservations! (This is a GREAT time for small business parties for your colleagues!)

Here Comes Houdini!

The very popular Non-Dining Houdini Sance evenings continue. This months is on the 20th. Show times are at 6, 8, and 9:45 PM. $35 per person (parties of 4 to 12 based on availability) or $40 which includes the Houdini Sance Commemorative Coin. Contact Ben Roman at broman@magiccastle.com for reservations (or by phone at 323-851-3313).

Be Adult. We Need More Dolts

Actually, we need fewer dolts and more adults at the Castle and a great way to do that is to bring your young adultsfolks ages 13 to 20during regular hours to one of the two Young Adult Nights this month at the Magic Castle. These are always popular nights, so get your reservations now for either December 16 or the 26th. Dont forget that the normal dress code is in effect even for the young ones!

A Reminder to Book Worms

The hours for the William Larsen, Sr. Memorial Library are:

Monday to Thursday: 6:30 - 10:30 PM
Friday: 1:00 - 3:00 and 6:30 - 10:30 PM
Saturday: 6:30 - 10:30 PM
Sunday (if there is a lecture): 1:00 - 3:00 and 5:00 - 10:30 PM
Sunday (If there is not a lecture): 1:00 - 5:00 and 6:30 - 10:30 PM

Lecture Lineup

12/2: Joe Monti
12/9: Paul Draper
12/16: David Stone
12/23: Oscar Munoz
12/30: Jeff Ezell

Here Comes Elvis!

Viva Las Vegas! is the theme of this years New Years Eve party at the Magic Castle. Casino games, showgirls, dancing, ringing in the New Year with champagne, and, yes, even Elvis will be there. This sells out quickly, so please get your reservations NOW! (Member door charge, $25. The regular menu as well as a special four course dinner is available.)

The Castles Holiday Schedule

The Magic Castle will be closed on December 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas. It will also be closed on January 1, 2013 in observance of the New Year (and appropriate recovery period from the Viva Las Vegas! party).
