Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (November 2012)

Postby Dustin Stinett » November 2nd, 2012, 12:37 am

Knocking Wood

The Magic Castle survived Halloween 2012 sans fire (or any other disaster) and had a marvelous week of entertainment and festivities. A year after the fire the old clubhouse looksand isbetter than ever.

A Case of the Shingles (for Charity)

During the refurbishing, many old shingles were replaced with fireproof ones. Those that covered the Castles entrance have been placed in shadow boxes along with photos and are being sold to support the Dai Vernon Fund (which helps magicians in need). Members only can purchase these unique keepsakes which are in limited quantities. 250 asphalt shingles are available for $100 and there are 150 wood shingles at $150 each. (These pieces will not be shipped, so they are only available for pickup at the Castle. Contact Rich Cowley for purchase information.)

Get a Kick Out of Mondays

Monday Night Football continues each Monday throughout November at the Magic Castle. $5 hotdog buffet (because when one thinks buffet, one thinks hotdogs) and kickoff at 5:30 PM down in the Hat & Hare Pub.

Both shows end with Duffy Hudsons performance of The Tell Tale Heart (in the character of Edgar Allan Poe) and Micah Covers straight jacket escape while reciting The Raven. The cost for this jam-packed evening? Free! However, donations to the William Larsen, Sr. Memorial Libraryfor which the event is heldare happily accepted. Space is limited. Though a slightly shortened week due to Thanksgiving, this is a busy week for the Castle. Tuesday night is the taping of Whos Hoo with host Fitzgerald and his guests David Spafford and Misty Lee (9PM in the Inner Circle). The Member Meet-Up on Wednesday night will be hosted by Jack Lovick. Besides the usual fun (no doubt Bill Goodwin will have another great trick found in the Larsen Library), Michael Carbonaro will drop by to chat about his Magic Clerk episodes on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno! This is for Magician Members only and starts at 8 PM in the Inner Circle (you should already have your reservations if youre planning on dinner, but call anyway to see if theres room for you in the Dante Room starting at 6 PM).

I saw Jon Stetson in The Parlour tonight at The Castle and it was great to see an audience so ENTERTAINED and AMAZED with his mentalism. Not unlike Geller, he can take seemingly simple small items/effects and have the audience involved/wowed with them.

Its another big week at the Castle. Monday night is the first Employee Appreciation Night where the hard-working staff will be catered to by management and the membership. Its a big semi-private party (you can bring guests with you, but guest cards will not be honored) with dancing, drink specials, and the buffet is only $19.95.

John Carney will be sharing Magic that Matters to Me in the Peller on Wednesday night starting at 8 PM. (This is a Members only perk.)

After touring in South America and Mexico for the last several months, Mark Kalin and Jinger are stopping by for a week-long turn in the Palace.

Santas annual visit to the Castle on Kids Day is just around the corner (11 AM to 2 PM, Saturday December 8) so make plans now!

And speaking of planning ahead, if you want to spend New Years Eve at the Magic Castle, do NOT hesitate: make those reservations in one quick hurry!
