Legend by Thomas Baxter

Postby KevinChine » November 8th, 2012, 7:14 pm

Hey guys,
I was recently searching through ACAAN effects, and I came upon Legend by Thomas Baxter.

I couldn't find the effect description anywhere.
So can some one tell me what the effect is, and how it looks like?

Also another effect I heard about was Brr by Thomas Baxter.

Again what effect is this?

Also where can I learn the method to these effects?

Thanks guys.

If I remember correctly Tom has an open prediction that he has not released yet, I haven't heard that he will. He also has a very pricy ACAAN that can be purchased. It would be best to get the info directly from him, or better yet, that he post here.

I'm assuming the very pricy ACAAN is Legend?

Ps. I would love to know how the Legend effect looks like/effect description?

Legend is a version of Any Card At Any Number that I have not yet released to the open market.

The effect is that you hand someone a closed briefcase with the warning not to let it out of his possession until the performance is over.

You explain that there are two things in the briefcase that will be of interest to the participant. One is a pack of playing cards; the other is a cheque for $10,000.00.

You note that before the performance you selected a particular playing card at random and placed it at a particular position in the pack (from position 1 to position 52). You state that you will allow the participant a free choice of any playing card, and any number from 1 to 52. In the end, if the chosen card is not at the chosen number, the participant can keep the cheque for $10,000.00 .

The participant is given the opportunity to change his mind if he wants to think of a different card or number.

Once he has committed to a card and number, he opens the briefcase and withdraws the cheque and the pack of playing cards (closed in its cardbox). With the performer standing far away, the participant removes the cards from the box and then counts the cards aloud, one at a time face up onto a table or chair or any surface available.

The card he named is at the number he named.

No stooges. No trick tables, chairs, etc. Only one ordinary pack of cards is used, which can be given to the participant as a gift at the end of the performance. No pre-show. Entirely self-contained. One the briefcase is in the participant's hands, the performer does not come near the participant or the cards again.

Is the briefcase big enough to contain a small human being?

That was funny Bob!

Can you do Metamorphosis with that case after this effect?

What if you get it right and the spectator won't surrender the check?

The briefcase is of a standard size and weight.

The cheque is only signed after the card is shown.

No, I don't have a "products" website, apart from individual pages linked to the ads I have for books, rising cards, etc.

"The cheque is only signed after the card is shown."

What a weird coincidence. That's also in my contract rider.

Tom,

Looking at it the from the 'Steinmeyer' perspective... why the Clown? ;)

because there are two Clowns...

So the question is, why the briefcase rather than hand the spectator the cards and the cheque.

No answer needed.

Briefcase closed :)

In my mind the cheque and the cards are important and valuable objects in this effect. Hence the need for a safe container. My original thought was to use this for a television special -- to have the briefcase filled with actual money, rather than just a cheque. In that case the briefcase would be a necessity, and not simply a presentational utility.

In real terms, as a mentalist I often perform out of a briefcase, so for me it makes sense.

When I was a kid I used to frequent a magic shop where the lady behind the counter demonstrated the effects in a very magical way.

In one effect a plexi-glass pane with holes in it was threaded into a frame with shoe laces so that it seemed to be positively locked in place. The lady would then place a semi-transparent silk hanky over the works, gently wave her hand and then, grasping the plexi-glass pane through the silk hanky, she pulled it magically free of the frame. It was as if the laces melted through the plexi-glass.

Now, there was no need in practical terms for the semi-transparent silk hanky. However the effect was many times more powerful when that simple touch was included. NOT being able to see everything clearly was theatrically more engaging that seeing it all in the full light of day.

Is this for real?
This sounds much more legendary than the Berglas Effect?
Also does the method work 100% of the time with out forces or stooges?
I assume maybe your using a trick/gimmicked brief case (you never mentioned that in your conditions). Why not just put the cheque with the deck on the table in clear view to start the trick. Nevertheless, sounds like the most impressive ACAAN I ever came across. If you ever plan to give out the method, please email me at Onlinegameplay4ever@gmail.com

I will surely look into it.

Also has anyone witness T.Baxter perform this effect for someone/or yourselves? And can it be performer over skype/webcame? If so I'll add you to skype :D

Why would you proffer a check that was not signed?
And why would you sign the check after they counted the cards to find their card at their number?

Nowhere do the conditions provide that the volunteer touched the check much less give it back to you? - do they just put the envelope in their pocket and give it back to you after?

Tricks with conditions in the effect statment are long overdue for serious vetting in terms of "effect". That may take a generation of young performers trying the trick to verify what they get as a report from disinterested spectators.

The effect is what they say it is.

The cheque is merely a presentational angle. It could as easily be actual cash in the briefcase, or no money involved at all.

Kevin: Yes, for real. If I finally do put this on the market, there will be an ad here on the Genii Forum, leading to video, etc.

Everyone please note: I joined this thread purely to respond to the original poster. I'm not pushing this as a product (not yet, anyway), so for now all I have to say is that this is merely another approach to the ACAAN effect. It is one that will likely appeal to a limited number of performers, which is fine with me.

Usually simplest to go directly to the person and ask privately.

I can recommend Baxter's published works on the Open Prediction effect and also the visual card force.

Baxter I want to confirm you that I am one of those limited people who will be attracted towards your ACAAN.

...Reason being because your ACAAN sounds Impossible effect-wise, I don't know method-wise. However if it appears 100% exactly like in the description, then it is the Holy Grail, imo.

I still can't believe how the effect can be possible, with no forces or stooges. And it is HANDS-OFF...??

WOW, this must really be the Holy grail of the Holy grail.

T.Baxter I recommend you sell it, because I am deeply interested. If you don't want to sell it, I am still willing to pay you BIG money, I will pay you $500.00 for the secret.

Anyways if you do sell it, do you have a estimated price in mind?

And call you tell me the strict conditions of the effect, or atleast please make a video of the demonstration. Don't sell it if you want, but I really want to see a demo. Or you can email me the demo personally :D
