Re: Ricky Jay Interview in The Washington Post
Thanks, Richard--it was an interesting (although IMHO, the author seemed to focus more on trying to turn a clever phrase rather than on the article's subject).
I did find the article notable for the closing quote from Jay:
"If I see someone who seems to be serious and talented, he said. Then Im willing to share.
Mr. Jay has the reputation for avoiding other magicians, but this quote indicates that his stance closely parallels that of several of his mentors.
It's one thing I love about magic: it's really a meritocracy--if you've got the stuff, the doors are accessible. However, everyone has to earn their own access.

Ricky shares with folks like his partner Michael Weber, Derek Delgaudio, and his long-time friend Steve Freeman and a few others, though it's a very small group. But Ricky's personal definition of "serious and talented" seems to be more narrow than most other people's.

For those who would like to hear Ricky Jay speak, but can't make it to DC tonight, KCRW has a number of recorded interviews with him.
