Genii Convention Schedule Online

Postby John Signa » September 30th, 2012, 11:38 pm

As Richard mentioned in the convention emailings, a Genii Convention digital guide containing the schedule, dealer info, bios, dining options, etc. is available. To access the guide, you need to download the Zwoor Event app for your mobile device:
After downloading and opening the app, enter "genii75" for the Meeting ID to download the Genii Convention data. Occasionally afterwards, you should click the refresh button (circular arrows) to download the latest version.

I've also made the schedule available in a format to which you can subscribe and view in iCal, Microsoft Outlook, or any other application that supports the iCalendar file format. Click here to subscribe.

This is very handy, thank you.
On my Android, I can only view part of the performers' and lecturers' biographies. I cannot scroll down to continue reading. The bios are from the Genii May 2012 issue. I'm wondering if it is possible to read the bios in their complete form. Thanks.

A simple text version is available on the Genii Convention website.

Yes, many of the bios are from the Genii issue, some are provided by the performers. Unfortunately, I don't have access to Android devices, so can't verify/report issues with the Android version of the Zwoor app.

To Richard and everyone going,

Have a great time. I am so sorry I can't make it. It looks like one heck of a convention. And to Richard. A huge congrats on the hard work in putting it together.

Hope it rocks.

To everyone attending the Bash, here's hoping you all have an amazing time. Unfortunately, due to my current health status, I will not be able to join you. I certainly wish I could be there. The line-up and schedule that Richard has put together look unbelievable. This will be THE convention to talk about for years to come. For those who are so inclined, feel free to keep the rest of us updated here and/or on FaceBook. Reading your daily reports are always fun, and will make the rest of us feel like we were there.

Have a great time!

The app will not install on an iPhone unless you are running an updated iOS. Leaves me out.

Hi Jeffrey -

Yes, it would have been great to finally meet in person. However, the recent and rapid decline of my health situation has forced me to stop all traveling and to also give up many things. I'll drop you a note soon, and keep you posted. Thanks for the message.

Have a fantastic time at the Bash!

Can anyone refresh my memory about what is included in our room at the Florida Hotel? Do we have to pay for WiFi? Thanks.

The hotel was going to charge Richard extra for access to the fitness center. When they heard it was a magician's convention, they realized it wouldn't get used, so they threw it in for free.

The hotel is fantastic. Nice rooms. good beds. Excellent shower. Fridge. Big desk/work area. (The closet is a bit small.) Two bottles of water each day. The clock radio has an iPod port in it, so my son is quite happy with that.

The convention area is spacious, though I would like to see more chairs. The staff is excellent.

There's a Starbucks and a nice little store that is well stocked with some grocery items including fresh fruit.

"Cricket's" bar/lounge has very good food reasonably priced. It's right next to the covention space, so it's the path of least resistance. And of course the HUGE food court at the mall is a short walk (the hotel has a sign out asking that no outside food be brought in, which is a reasonable request given the free services they are giving us). There's a Japanese restaurant right there too for those who need their sushi fix.

It really is a fantastic venue.

The only negative I can think of is the fact that I am working up until dinner-time tomorrow, which puts me in Orlando at 6pm on Wednesday. :(

Hopefully the ride from the airport will be swift and I will make it in time for early registration. At the very least, I'll have a few bucks burning a hole a my pocket, to spend with the dealers.

Can't believe that it is soooo close! I don't know how I'll be able to concentrate on work tomorrow.

What kind of coffee do they have in the rooms? K-cups, or those individual drip packs? Do the rooms have safes in them? Thanks MaxNY

It's a drip pack thing. Yes, there is a small safe. And a nice flat screen TV mounted on the wall.

I will be arriving at the Orlando airport at 9:30 am. None know if the hotel will store my bags until checkin and how early they are likely to let me check in?

Will anyone be reporting on the events on the forum or on a podcast? I'm beginning to think that avoiding long travel and missing this is a worse impact of breaking my leg than the three months I spent confined to a couple of rooms of my house earlier this year.

Don,

I'm pretty sure that that the bell service here will store your bags if your room's not ready.

Mike,

I don't know yet if I will be doing that (from an official standpoint).

There are pros to both.

I've always "published" a calendar of events for every conference I've attended; I generally don't broadly advertise it. Even though I put all of the info into the Zwoor app, I believe there is still value to seeing a conference schedule integrated with your personal schedule.

I had unsuccessfully tried to convince Zwoor to have the app create ics files for events that select so that they'd show up in your device's calendar.

I'm sure the chap that did the zwoor thing also did an ics...I don't know where it is though...

Damian, I'm the chap and first post has link to the iCalendar subscription.

If someone can only make it for the last two, or even just the last day of the convention, is it pro-rated? Or is it possible to attend just certain lectures and/or shows?

Okay, so here's a bit of a news flash. My lecture on Thursday night is brand new, and it is not about conjuring. The lecture content - theory and new tricks - is drawn from the all new lecture manuscript entitled: "Dichotomies: Mentalism, Mental Magic, and the Difference."

So there.

I know that I am foolish t o ask this question, but I will try, anyhow. How do
I find or recognize Senior Goat at the Genii bash? I have a very rare chair that I would like to get a personal recommendation from him on before I put it on EBay.

Or listen for the sound of shouting and cursing and follow the trail to its source. During the convention, Damian will be punching random people.
