Juggling Barkeep...
Not sure if this has been posted before. If it has, have a second look!

Meh. I dislike flair. It's ugly, and not very hard, compared to real juggling
Here's some good club juggling:

Can't see youtube clips at the office.
Is that a clip from the movie Coctail (1988)? Flair was big then.

No. This goes well beyond what was done in "Cocktail." (It's from a competition show from another country.)

I dunno. I quite like flair (I've even been known to do some myself). Ok, it's not always five club back crosses or alternate treblas/alberts, but it's often a lot more skillful than your run of the mill three ball cascade...

It's ugly and graceless. Compare the chap in Dustin's Vid with the crazy ruskie. The bartender is moving all the time, correcting, his eyes are going crazy, whereas the juggler makes it look effortless. Most of the time he makes it look like he isn't even looking.
I think that is what is really boils down to. Fred Astaire used to make you feel it was effortless. I think good jugglers do that. It's like breathing. Whereas a bartender makes it look like he is struggling, there is no grace, no subtlety.
Obviously I am spoiled having one of the best jugglers in the world as my brother, but nevertheless I've never been a fan of flair. At it's best, it is someone doing 2 club moves in an ugly way.
IMHO, as ever. :)

Different audiences. Get a drunken (or on the way) bar crowd and show them some flair, and then show them that Russian club routine and we both know which would get the best response.
It's sad, but I think a lot of the time the best jugglers are only appreciated by other jugglers. I know the moves in your clip, and I know how bastard hard they are, but most real people wouldn't be able to separate what was going on for the full five minutes.

True, true.
I guess the same is true of magic.
Drunks will be more than happy with a d'lite and some flash paper, whereas we all tend to think those things are, well, crap.

I only know that I can't do any of it. I can barely keep three balls aloft.
Damian: who's your brother?!?

That would make you the wee scamp who runs around the back lot? Or am I missing something?

Kinda, I'm more the attention seeking failure saying "go on, pick a card" and everyone telling me to bugger off.

Thanks for the kind words RK, and everyone else that liked it.
He's the only Brit juggler to win the International Juggling Association (their FISM) gold medal three times. You can see why.
And, get this, I taught him to do 3 balls initially!
