FANTASTIC edition ! Don't miss the FISM coverage ;-)

Some choice quotes from Richard's article - "FISM FIASCO 2012"

"FISM was a mess for various reasons most of which can be laid at the feet of organizer Derek Lever."

"Though many will privately discuss questionable business tactics, not a single person will go on the record regarding Mr Lever's behaviour, which is best summed up as that of a penny-pinching crackpot tyrant with an enormous ego and a very small domain."

"There's really no other way to say this, so I'll just make it concise: the Gala shows were dreadful, amongst the worst at any convention I can recall in recent memory."

"...I will simply say that the entire event except the contest - the only portion of the convention run by FISM - was boring, poorly organized and lackluster ..."

So it appears that the expectations for FISM in Blackpool were pretty low. But still Mr. Lever failed to meet them.

Actually, I don't get all the complaining. FISM in Blackpool was exactly what I would have expected from a FISM in Blackpool, organized by persons whom we all know from the ordinary Blackpool conventions.

FISM in Haag was perfect. The Dutch chose the perfect venue. It was easy to see and generally a lot of space. FISM in Sweden was a disappointment. A semi-finished venue and no official FISM hotel to hang out in the evenings. But it was only a disappointment because I expected more from them. FISM in Blackpool was tacky and a lot of the events were below FISM standard. But hey - we all knew that would happen when Blackpool was chosen to host it. We all knew they don't have the skills to pull of a decent FISM. The big mystery to me is not that FISM in Blackpool was tacky - that was kind of given. It was that FISM picked them in the first place instead of exploring other options. In Haag, France was putting up a big show and showed a lot of energy towards hosting FISM. So there are other players.

Richard

I watched you video supplement and have looked on vanishinginc.com but cannot find The Cooler you recommended.

Can you provide another link?

Thank you

The Cooler is exclusive to Vanishing Inc. Maybe they're out of stock at the moment.

I would expect Tina Lennart (sic, p 70) to be wearing thick glasses.

Maybe s/he got the laser eye surgery, and didn't stop there?
