Parakeet Magic Resources...

Postby Ray Eden » August 7th, 2012, 4:37 am

I would appreciate some recommendations for books or DVDs about parakeet magic. What are the best resources to study?

Thanks,
Ray Eden

I believe Dave Womach has some information on parakeet magic. Ramon Gallindo (sp) did have some stuff on it out as he was one of the first to work with these birds. I just saw him at SAM in Las Vegas.

There's a book on Jack Kodell's magic - he kind of pioneered the field

What is the name of Kodell's book? and is it currently available? I did a quick Google...but couldn't find anything.

? With any luck they are available from Abbotts or your local shop:
http://www.abbottmagic.com/Parakeet-Mag ... arakmg.htm
http://www.magic.org/store/product_info ... ts_id=2356
Parakeet Magic

and the big book is Kodell: Do Something Different

The guy passed away just a couple of months ago and his book was disuccussed then.

Magic with animals requires more care and attention than simple google searches:

For the birds,

J

Thanks Jonathan. Trying to place an order for the book now.

And yes, I know about animal care. When I lived in NYC I worked with doves. But its a good and valid point.

Jon,

Thanks for your comments. I tried to reply in private, but the private message refused to send. So here it is here:

Thanks for your comments.

I knew Kodell had passed a month or so ago, but I didn't realize he lived in New York City. I lived there in the 90s, but I don't remember ever meeting him. I was quite green back then though.

Is there any signs one should look for regarding sensing the temperament of the birds when at the pet shop or is it just a hit or miss thing?

In the meantime...I'm going to order the book and the DVDs and start getting some ideas from there. I have a Vanishing Bird Cage that has been collecting dust on the shelf for years now. I've had a routine idea for it, but haven't put the work into yet. It think it's time to do it, and the parakeet would be a nice touch for the ending.

Kodell lived in NY? Was not aware of that either.

Good luck with the birds.

It looks like in my tiredness I misread you're "I was a New Yorker..." as "He was a New Yorker". Mystery solved. :-)

It seems the book PARAKEET MAGIC (http://www.abbottmagic.com/Parakeet-Mag ... arakmg.htm) is out of print from Abbott Magic. Does anyone have a copy they are willing to part with?

Thanks,
Ray Eden
