Genii readers: Do NOT miss reading Eric Meads review of a book of jokes in the April issue. It is more than a review: it is an essay and lesson on performance art.
Bravo and thank you Mr. Mead!

There's a Genii bash in July? Or are you just starting a queue _really_ early?
Cos if so, your Britishification is complete.

Re: Eric Mead: More Than a Review
I recall many years ago Martin Gardner giving an excellent review of a book by John Fisher - principally because he had extracted much of it from Gardner's own book. In similar vein I must congratulate Eric Mead for his excellent review of Charles Dickens: Conjurer, Mesmerist and Showman by Trevor Dawson in the August edition of Genii. H

Re: Eric Mead: More Than a Review
Ian, I don't think you finished your post -- the last part seems to have been cut off. It is unclear the point you are making because it sounds like you are either accusing Trevor Dawson of plagiarizing Eric Mead, or Eric Mead of plagiarizing you.

Re: Eric Mead: More Than a Review
I pointed Eric to Ian's article about Dawson's work, and the credit to Ian seems to have been lost in the shuffle, for which I apologize.

Re: Eric Mead: More Than a Review
Eric asked me to post this:
"To Ian Keable (and others looking in):
As a matter of personal policy I don't read other people's reviews before writing my own, as I've found it can color my opinion before I've formed one. In this case I wrote the first draft of my review, focusing on the mistake made by Mr. Dawson in attributing to Dickens articles not written by Dickens from the periodicals. Then, when I read Mr. Keable's scholarly and far more knowledgable dissection, I discovered many important details and a plethora of other errors by Dawson I was unaware of. I drew from Mr. Keable's excellent research in subsequent drafts to strengthen and clarify my observations. Anyone reading his and my review can see where I have pulled from his work, and his name and full credit for original research I used in my review absolutely belong in my column. I did not mean to take credit for his outstanding work either directly or by omission. In fact, I had credited Mr. Keable in a longer version of my review, but in trimming the column down to the required size for publication I obviously cut those credits. It was a mistake--an amateurish but not intentional oversight--and I apologize publicly and sincerely to Mr. Keable, Genii readers, and my editor.

Please pass on my thanks for Eric's gracious and clearly sincere apology, which of course is fully accepted.
