Have you received your March issue yet?
Our March issue will feature Al Cohen on the cover with a really nice story by Jamy Swiss. I think you'll enjoy it.
We've also got a big surprise in "Magicana"...

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
I just got mine in the mail.
Very large thanks to Richard and to Jamy for a great profile of a great dealer, Al Cohen.
Reading Vic Sussman's sidebar made me get misty, realizing that I too have become one of the "old guys" in the back of Al's magic shop.
And thanks also for the Magicana section on "Kling-Klang." I've performed the Tarbell version of that trick (with a lemon instead of an egg) and didn't know that's what it was called.

And as excellent as those items were, they weren't even the most interesting bits to me. Harrison Carroll made me want to visit Maui even more than I already do, David Reed-Brown made me feel rotten for having missed a McBride convention that featured Ormand McGill and other favorites, and an amazing British tv series is described (but with a tricky layout: "Twelve months ...?"). And an intriguing Darren Brown subtext runs through the articles and the review sections. A very rich issue full of surprises.
Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
No offense to the Larsen's, but Richard has really turned the magazine around and increased the quality of the articles for a wider range of audience. Not to mention actually being delivered early as the norm.

It arrived in Seattle, WA yesterday. As always, a wonderful read. I do have a question, though.
At the end of Anthony Owen's "A Year in the Life of the Quick Trick Show", on page 51, the article stops mid-sentence. How is it supposed to end? Help, I need closure!

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
Hey zm, I addressed this elsewhere in another thread, but didn't actually include the missing words. Here is the final entry in its entirety:
"September
The Quick Trick Show series four begins transmission in September and is shown every weekday for 15 days. Twelve months work gone in three weeks. Let's hope it tops the ratings again."
I'll say it again--Oops!

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
Well, my magic set collection isn't what it used to be ... in fact, it isn't even WHERE it used to be.
It used to be in my house, now it's in David Copperfield's warehouse in Nevada.
On the other hand, I did keep a small group of sets which would've been duplicates for David, and I have a few others, so a modest article might be done.

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
Richard,
Surprised to hear you depleted your magic set collection, how were you able to part with it ? However I have a question regarding one of my sets values if you could help,it is in a wooden box 12"X 83/4" by 31/4" deep on the lower right cover it says "Gilbert toys Mysto magic" inside it has a small tray 1" deep, the instruction manual is dated 1917 it appears about 80 % complete with cards 7 packet tricks, coins, okito box, drumhead tube , some chains and small balls etc..I paid $80.00 for it, what would you estimate its value ?

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
It sounds as if you have a Mysto Magic Set No.2006 from 1917-1918. There was a new booklet in 1919 so it is earlier than that, and there was a different booklet dated 1916 so it's later than that.
The only set from 1917-1918 in a wooden box is a 2006. Is the wood a natural blond color or is it stained dark? Natural blond would be earlier, stained dark would be later. Also, is there another label pasted INSIDE the lid, or only on the outside?

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
Richard,
Thanks for the quick response about my magic set,the wood is stained dark and I cannot f
ind any more labels on the box except for the front lower right corner, I was perusing the instruction manual and noted on the inside cover of the back page they were advertising Mysto magic sets # 2001,2003,2004 & 2006 and was trying to look at the picture of the set illustrated which was #2006 and what I could see it may be the same one I have, so if it is #2006 what are they worth ?

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
Genii is now 96 pages a month. :)
rparcesepe@cs.com: your Mysto 2006, depending on whether its complete and the condition of its contents (it does have the cardboard try inside, always a good sign) is probably worth several hundred dollars. Really need to see a jpeg to give a more detailed value.

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
I received my issue yesterday (the 25th). Great article on Al Cohen, but it's times like this that some video clips would be nice. Mr. Swiss did a good job of conveying what a delight it is to see Al Cohen in action, but words alone cannot do him justice.

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
Received March issue yesterday. What a great tribute to one the nicest guys in magic. I first met Al when the shop was on Penn. Ave. and his father was still living. He's been a friend since. Thaks for honoring him so well.

Got it today, Feb 26th. Fantastic cover, and a great story on one of the nicest guys in magic.
And mark me down as another someone who bought something from Al because of the way he demoed it, but still trying to figure out a way to put it in the act...

Re: Have you received your March issue yet?
I have not received my copy here in Woodland Hills (LA - west valley).
I'm not panicking yet, but at some point I'll need to check to see that my subscription hasn't run out without me receiving a renewal notice. I don't see anywhere I can check this online.
Richard -- what should I do if I still don't have it in a week?

Pete Biro:
Did you get yours yet? In the big city where you live? Maybe I can hitch a wagon on over to your house and read yours.
I haven't seen you since the Tannen's Jubilee, circa 1976 I think, where I was a volunteer during your lecture for the card stab where you two jumbo cards come out of the tray.
Man -- we must both be old!

The other Pete:
Mine came in the mail today. If you didn't get yours, you'll welcome to come out to rural, scenic Woodland HIlls and take a look at mine.
Just take 101 West until it turns into a dirt road, then take a left. Third log cabin on the right.
And leave the knives at home.
