We Need Some Tricks for Magicana!

Postby Richard Kaufman » May 5th, 2012, 11:44 am

Folks, we need some tricks for "Magicana" and this seems to be the most direct way to get the word out!

If you have anything you'd like to submit, please send it along to David Acer: davidacer(at)davidacer.com (replace the (at) with an "@" sign and no spaces).

I was always under the impression that you had some huge backlog to work through. I guess David's excellent work has whittle down the pile.

Not a huge backlog. Used to be that way.

OK - I have to ask...

I've noticed a few on here quote e-mail addresses like this -

davidacer(at)davidacer.com (replace the (at) with an "@" sign and no spaces)

Why not just quote -
(RK HAS REMOVED THIS BECAUSE IT SHOULD SEEM OBVIOUS NOW WHY YOU DON'T PUT THE WHOLE ADDRESS AS IT NORMALLY APPEARS)

This has always puzzled me...

Yours faithfully

Puzzled (see, I told you)

Many times spambots will glean those address combinations that use the '@'.

Would love to see a special issue of Genii/Magicana of Charlie Miller. Since the Magic Collectors Weekend will be having a Miller lecture and the Magic Newswire will be having a special episode as well, perhaps the stars will align with a special tribute to this unsung hero on the cover of Genii/Magicana.

Sorry to say that replacing the at sign with (at) provides zero protection from anyone with entry level programming skills. A regular expression that will match either @ or (at) takes less than one line of code in Perl or PowerShell.

How about a Real Secrets Magicana special for the April 2013 issue?

Or get LM to to give us the low down on the Choo Choo Train trick.

Get permission from Harry Lorayne to reprint tricks from his books. That should last another ten years or more.

Love to see Tony Giorgio's Three Card Monte in Genii.

Love to see Mr. Jennings Takes It Easy serialized (then a book of course).

Tony's Three-Card Monte is sold as a booklet by his wife, Kaye.

As I recall, and I would love to be wrong on this, the monte routine Tony sold (and I assume the one his wife is now selling) does not contain Tony's presentation. HIs great patter, and his ability as an actor, made the routine special.

Richard, I have buckets of stuff. Buckets. Don't know if it meets Genii standards. I'll send it off to your evil minion.

I sent something into David last week but hadn't heard back. I don't know if he hasn't gotten around to replying, decided it wasn't worth putting in Genii or if he didn't get it. I'll wait another week and try again. But if he just doesn't like it then I'd hate to keep bothering him.

David has been quite busy traveling and performing. In the internet age we get quite itchy if someone doesn't respond in a few days. Please give him a little time.

No problem, Richard! It wasn't a question borne out of impatience. I really just wanted to make sure I wasn't pestering the guy if he wasn't interested.

Thanks for the info.

Hey, saw your post and was wondering if you could help me out. I'm in Nigeria with a large box of gold bars. I can't get them out of the country without some outside assistance. If you could wire me $50,000 U.S. for expenses to pay off the government officials, we could split the gold bars. With that money you could buy several books on card tricks (they are VERY, VERY expensive). Let me know.

Bob – if you are in Nigeria, this may work for our mutual advantage and sustenance.

My beloved friend, Shere Surugaba, of the Ministry of Education Relief, is also attempting to remove from Nigeria funds accumulated by criminal officials which were discovered by her (unfortunately) late father, who was killed by criminal officials. Based on my good and trustworthy reputation, she has contacted me (and only me) for assistance in transferring for investment purpose these funds to a financial bank account which is not under the control of criminal officials.

Shere is most honest and will not fraud me. But now that I have sent him my financial bank account information, I have not heard back from him. I can only assume that he is accumulating difficulties. Can you help him Bob? I know that he will share funds remaining after he completes his charitable works with you in exchange for assistance to prosecute transference of the funds. His maximum gratitude will result for your reliability and confidence.

Lol,

There has to be some sort of magic routine you could pull from Nigerian scam culture....

As for tricks, I have a small coin routine I more or less made up myself using some sleights I learnt from here and there, but I think you could do better.
