Winchester Mystery House movie
Hammer Films is developing a horror movie based on the Winchester Mystery House. I've posted an article on my blog about the Houdini connections to this "spooky" home.

The new Hammer Company's first film, "Wake Wood," is really good if you're into a nice retro-style horror film.

'Let me in ' and 'the resident' were both pretty good. 'The woman in black' was successful but I was not very satisfied with it somehow.
Can't wait to see 'wake woods' thanks for the heads up Richard!

I heard "The Resident" wasn't very good so I skipped it. Do you suggest otherwise?
I usually don't catch films until home video, so haven't seen "The Woman in Black," although I WILL be at The Avengers on Friday.

1+ I recently saw a movie where some clown spent the whole time asking questions and completing punchlines in a stage whisper. (I really think our culture has encouraged people to act like they are alone at all times).
However, I WILL be at the Avengers too!

I think everyone who can sneak away from work or school is going to be at The Avengers. The rating on Rotten Tomatoes is something like 95%.

One thing I am afraid of: there has been so much hype about The Avengers, that I'm wondering if it can really live up to it (especially for comic fanboys). Got my fingers crossed though.
Tip: apparently the end of credits scene is not to be missed.

For those of you with NetFlix streaming capability, "Wake Wood" is available there for online viewing (I haven't watched it yet.)

Just saw Avengers today: GREAT movie, especially for the avid comics fan. Starts out a little slow, but definitely is an "E" ticket ride. Closest thing to comics coming to life I've ever seen.
Speaking of which: if you are a fanboy: be sure to stay to see both scenes during the end credits. Woot!

What about for non comic people. Will someone with no emotional connection or previous knowledge of the characters enjoy it on it's own merit?

Re: Winchester Mystery House movie
Hi, Brad:
That's a very good question.
There are a lot of in jokes, but the dialogue is witty and clever and the action is spectacular enough that I think the general public will like it. Whedon has tried to make the movie self-contained, and there are intros to the characters in the beginning, so I think most folks can jump right in and enjoy, regardless of background knowledge.
However, if you've never seen any of the movies, I would recommend checking out: http://marvel.com/avengers_movie/
and look at the "characters section". Browsing through that beforehand will get you up to speed quickly so you can get the most out of the film.

Re: Winchester Mystery House movie
Saw The Avengers this afternoon. Perfect.
However if you haven't see Iron Man, Thor, or Captain America (but particularly Thor) then you'll be scratching your head a lot.
Joss Whedon really nailed it. You'll see Avengers 2 in about 3 years. First we get Iron Man 3 (already shooting, I believe), Thor 2, and Captain America 2.
Big smiles all around!
Next up, Prometheus and The Dark Night.
(I do watch arty stuff, too. :) )

If you liked Iron, you should see the others. If not, skip it all.

Brad:
IMHO, if you liked Iron Man, I think you will like the Avengers. Tony Stark plays a major role in the film and your familiarity with his character will go a long way in getting into this film.

Richard:
Yeah! The new Dark Knight trailer was pretty awesome--too bad that DC seems to have kept this version of their universe mostly separate from their print comic universe.
Not sure about Prometheus--seems pretty trite: Oh, look, ancient message from alien race asking us to find them...Oh, No! They're evil! I almost thought the lady in the trailer was going to start screaming: "It's a cookbook!"

"Trite" goes along hand in hand with many sci-fi or horror films if you're going to get too sniffy about it. I surrender a certain part of my brain when sitting down or otherwise my enjoyment is inhibited.

Point taken. Hopefully, Prometheus will be good.
