Dai Vernon 30th Anniversary Revelations Box Set Extra Discs

Postby Ben James » April 26th, 2012, 7:19 pm

Hi all,

As someone who has recently (last year) completed his collection of Revelation DVD's only to now find them re-boxed offering extra bonus discs... I am wondering if the bonus discs are available anywhere to purchase on their own without having to buy all the discs again?

I have looked around the web already and have had no luck, and thought someone here may be able to help.

Kind Regards,

Ben.

IMHO the bonus discs and notes are worth the price of the set.

Can you please describe ( in a bit more detail ) the bonus discs and notes and what Vernon does in the Magic Castle lectures if possible?

A lot of it is the same material, but it's a younger Vernon in some of them. One appears to be just him and the camera, being filmed by Bill Larsen. Others were of him giving lectures to a group. Some good material.
When the new set was released, there were quite a few sets of the original DVD's being put up for sale.

Thanks guys. One last question... with this boxed set, does it include the footage where Vernon calls out Ammar and gives him a dressing down.

Yes, it's an extra "bonus" footage on the first disc, I think (don't have the set in front of me)

IMHO, it isn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe.

Back in Ultimate Secrets of Card Magic, Ganson wrote that Vernon had shown him three routines which he was not allowed to publish. These were Joker Monte, a centre deal, and a rope cutting routine.
Joker Monte was subsequently published in Further Lost Inner Secrets.
The centre deal was published in Magic and Methods of Ross Bertram, and covered on the Revelations DVDs.
But until now, the rope cutting routie has not been available. In the introduction to Ultra Cervon, Jim Patton wrote that the Miller-Fox-Vernon rope routine seemed to have been lost.
How fabulous, then, to find Vernon's explanation of this routine on one of the "bonus" lectures. Given that history, it could have been released separately with a lot of hype. As it is, no one seems to have mentioned it.

El Mystico has elucidated one of the most important segments of the Vernon lecture DVDs....Indeed, he sees AND observes.

I agree with the assessment above: The "bonus" material alone is worth the price. Several times, familiar Vernon aphorisms -- about not handling a double like a slab of cement, about coming away with a palmed card, etc. -- that always made sense on a logical level now are viscerally compelling.
