Off-Line Reading

Postby Ray Haddad » September 20th, 2011, 4:59 pm

Any way to download an issue for off line reading? Airplane rides are a lot better with a digital bookshelf in my reader.

I've looked all over and can't seem to find a way to download an entire issue. Using Firefox, Wind XP and Adobe Reader.

Thanks for any help.
Best Regards,
Ray

Ray, an iPad allows you to download issues onto it. I don't know what an Android e-pad is, but if it's a tablet, you can read issues of Genii when you're online using your browser, but we do not offer an Android app for Android tablets yet.

Richard, if you can send me one sample issue by e-mail, I may be able to write an Android app to read it. At the moment, Android is overtaking iPad by leaps and bounds. I am a subscriber, as you probably know.

Ray, the iPad app also ties back to AskAlexander to verify your subscription, so it's probably more work then just writing an app to read it.

Thanks, Joe. Any chance then of making the files into a single, downloadable PDF file for reading off line? It seems a waste of technology to force on line reading or iPad.

No Ray, you need an iPad and that is the way it is staying for the forceable future according to RK. This has been discussed before. By you and you were told the same thing, to jog your memory:

You have to remember there are actually two services.

AskAlexander for all the back issues of Genii which allows for only online viewing and searching. There is no app or ipad interface for offline viewing. You'll have to talk to Conjuring Arts Research Center/Bill Kalush about that feature.

Genii provides the iPad app and an online viewer for the current published issue (and some archived issues for the current year).

I have no desire to create downloadable pdfs of Genii. I spent plenty of time getting them taken down from illegal sites as is.

how do you remove copies of Genii from my iPad. I've been all over the app and I have too many issues and can't remove them. :o(

In the upper right hand corner of the screen is a button labeled "edit" Touch that button. Issues that you have downloaded will have an "X" on the upper left hand corner. If an issue does not have an "X" this is because you have not actually downloaded the issue and it is not taking up any space on your iPad.
