Linking Ring Crash Link Question ?
Linking Ring Crash Link Question ?
Hi , I have always worked with the solid sets of Linking Rings . I am considering purchasing the Owen 10" light weight hollow set . My question is ......... can the crash link be performed using a hollow light set ? Dick Ryan had once told me that they can become dented . Would like to hear any advice forum readers my have on this subject . Thank you .
Re: Linking Ring Crash Link Question ?
Yes you can. Those rings, like the Redefine Rings from Singapore are very strong and it's going to take a lot more force than a crash link move to dent them. Whit Haydn uses Owen Rings and his routine uses the crash link.

Steve ..... Thank you very much , calling Owen in the morning :-) Hope they have them in stock .
Re: Linking Ring Crash Link Question ?
My Owen hollow rings have been crashed and banged for at least 20 years and they still look like new.
Stay tooned.
Re: Linking Ring Crash Link Question ?
I love me my Owen rings. Crashing them for ages, not as long as Mr Biro, but...
Also, the bell like sound they produce is wonderful.

Re: Linking Ring Crash Link Question ?
I lost many of my favorite props because of what happened two years ago, among them was my ring set. I have owned several sets, all Owens, my favorite being the Owen's 15 inch hollow rings which I have performed with since 1993. Last year Alan Zagorsky made me a present of a new set and wished me well in my effort to rebuild my life. What more can I say, good choice.

The 10" hollow rings from Owen arrived last week , they are fabulous ! Without a doubt the best set I have ever owned ! Thanks everyone for your advice and words of wisdom .

I used the 10" Merv Taylor Orbs Eternal for more than thirty years, and then was gifted a set of the 15" Owens rings by Jon Stetson. He thought that my 10" rings looked too small once I began using the Pop costume. The long black frock tends to make everything look smaller in my hands. I also started using thick white rope and 24" scarves for the silk to egg for the same reason.
Both of these sets were wonderful. I miss the springiness of the Merv Taylor solid rings when doing the crash link. The hollow rings are much clunkier and not as deceptive for some moves.
However, the size adds interest and makes everything seem much more amazing to the audience. I love the Owens set, and wouldn't change back.

I watched a video of Richard Ross doing his award winning ring routine. Richard was a good friend who could be an artistic pain in the ass, but that devotion shows up in his work as perfect movement and grace. It takes great energy to be still and move with what seems an effortless manner. It's the most beautiful routine I have ever seen.
He used a set of Owen's rings with an LKR.

Lovely routine.

I think for that sort of timing I prefer the Celini routine though. That is just effortless. Like Astaire dancing.

I like Celini's work. It certainly gave me another perspective on the rings which was a point I was discussing on another thread on Genii.
