100 years ago today – The Great Lafayette

Postby David Stahl » May 9th, 2011, 1:08 pm

Today marks the one hundred year anniversary of The Great Lafayettes Death.

On the evening of May 9th, 1911, the famous Empire Theatre Fire in Edinburgh, Scotland took the life of The Great Lafayette and many in his company. There will be a sance held this evening starting promptly @ 9 P.M. at The Empire Theatre

If you have any original material pertaining to The Great Lafayette or The Empire Theatre Fire, please contact me at dstahl@mchsi.com

This morning I took my friend Frank to the Festival Theatre to be interviewed by the Beeb (it's on in about 20 minutes...). Frank's father was the official photographer who took the pictures of the aftermath of the fire, as well as the funeral. If you've seen any of these shots, it's Rushbrook's work.

He's 96 years old, so communication is a tad erratic. Let me know what you need and I'll pass on the message. Best use m@gician.info for more contact.

Ian,

If you can do anything for David, it would be great. David is the most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to Lafayette. As I like Houdini, David is more so with Lafayette. This is what he did for my site with Houdini.

David is one the more decent magic historians out there and he sends out great Christmas cards too.

I don't think so, but I really should. I presume you're going.
