Cards Don't Lie Trick/Lie Detector
Cards Don't Lie Trick/Lie Detector
I am wondering what dvd or book I can find this trick? I have been searching for this but the answers I have been getting is misleading, People say it is called Lie Detector by Ron Bauer..Where do I even find a book on him? is there a magician that has this trick on their DVD? H Lorayne had told me it is in his books but never told me witch one, I never get it when they tell you they have the trick published but nit tell you where & what book.

Funkytek: Check the thread on the "other" forum - I mention a few books, etc. Of course, you might even try to do your own research.

A couple more suggestions; Mike Close has a version called The Lie Detector in Workers 5 (also in the Complete Workers eBook). Peter Duffie has a slightly different approach in Effortless Card Magic (I think - now an ebook) which uses the plunger principle to good effect.

May I suggest "The Illogical Lie Detector" by Ed Marlo in New Tops, Vol. 21, no. 5, may 1981, page 23.

Re: Cards Don't Lie Trick/Lie Detector
Paul Curry had a nice simple one called 'the truth-telling joker', which is featured in Worlds Beyond. The spectator shuffles a deck and miscalls the joker as their thought of card. The magician identifies this whilst facing the other way. That book contains a few other similar effects on a 'lying theme' and is well worth buying either way.
Tony Griffith has a nice version using a Si Stebbins stack in his Final Reflections. The spectator lies or tells the truth about suit and value etc and each answer is spelt to reveal a corresponding card, culminating in the revelation of their selection (I've got a feeling this might be a variation of somebody else's as I'm sure I've seen it before...)

Re: Cards Don't Lie Trick/Lie Detector
Just looking through my books, the good one with a Si Stebbins stack is 'Automatic Lie Speller' and was actually created by Nick Trost but features in Tony Griffith's Ultimate Reflections - I've had this performed on me and it looks great!
Simon Aronson has a similar effect called Truth Sayer using his Aaronson stack and some selected force cards on page 245 of his wonderful 'Try The Impossible', which also contains lots of similar 'placementy' type effects. (although I prefer Trost's version but the rest of the book is excellent, the man's a genius!)
I was scanning Card Concepts by Arthur Mactier but got bored...only so much sequential card magic is healthy in a single sitting...
