Just a note to let everyone know that the digital version of the February 2011 issue of Genii will be available for all subscribers around the world to read this coming Tuesday, January 11. (Just changed this from Monday because we're adding more video and audio to the issue.)

If you haven't activated your iGenii account yet, or need instructions on how to utilize the iGenii content of your subscription, please look here:

I just perused the Feb iGenii issue and wanted to compliment you on the inclusion of video and audio.

I enjoyed the the More Genii Speaks video thoroughly. Seeing your office, the books and you live (well sort of) was great. I look forward to checking out all the other video and audio inclusions.

If this is a hint of whats to come, I'm looking forward to it. Any word on an Android client?

Subscribe to Genii for $56 for one year and you get:
1. 12 printed monthly copies
2. 12 digital copies of the monthly issues FREE
3. Access to 74 years of back issues online FREE.

Subscribe to MAGIC for $54 for one year and you get:
12 paper copies ... and that's all.

If you want the digital copy, assuming you have an iPad, you'll pay an extra $4 a month. No iPad, you're out of luck.

So, one year of Genii (paper AND digital) = $56

One year of MAGIC (paper AND digital, if you have an iPad) = $102!!!

The math should make the choice for you! You're paying almost double for MAGIC and you don't even get any back issues.

All online features of Genii are free to all subscribers and viewable on any desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone, Droid, tablet, and so on.

For many it is not purely about price or compatibility. I subscribe to magazines primarily for the type of content I am looking for regardless of the price. This is not to say that Genii is not a good magazine but the type of content is not necessarily exactly what every magician really wants to read.

No one product is suitable for everyone with a given interest. That really goes without saying.

Does the following mean that Apple will be forcing Genii to charge extra for ipad access?

Apple disallows free online magazines subscriptions.

A number of European newspapers have reportedly been told by Apple that they can no longer offer paid print subscribers free access to an iPad edition through the App Store, as the subscription strategy leaves Apple out of its 30 percent cut.

We've been told nothing about this and, if it happens, we will find a work-around.

Well, dang-it, I broke down and subscribed. While I enjoyed the ritual of buying Genii from my local Magic shop (yes, I still have one of those), this whole iGenii thing is just too sweet! Can't wait to get into those archives. Guess I have to wait on my Feb issue to get the activation key? Looking forward to it. :)

With the digital issues goes up, does that mean we won't see any more newer volumes (09-10) going into the Ask Alexander interface? The new thing is nice, but the Ask Alexander has some advantages (searching, printing, etc.).

Excellent question, Chris - I had the same thought.
Hopefully all Genii content makes it into Ask Alexander.

First all issues will be stored in their digital format in the archive (the one that you see when you read the current issue) for at least a year, but perhaps three years.

In addition to that, all back issues will be added to Alexander at the end of the publication year.
