Ask Alexander question

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Ask Alexander question

Postby JohnCox » November 28th, 2010, 7:17 pm

I'm thinking about subscribing to Ask Alexander on the Conjuring Arts Research Center site, but I wanted to know if anyone here could tell me what level will get me access to the bulk of Houdini material? I'd particularly like to get into the scrapbooks. Do I have to go all the way to the top level (damn expensive), or will the basic subscription get me into these?

Thanks.

Perhaps somebody could actually list what is available in the various levels. It is not at all clear what is accessible via the various levels.

That would be great. It is way too much money to plunk down blindly.

I suggest you simply call the Conjuring Arts Research Center and speak to the librarian or Ricky Smith.

The basic level won't get you into the Houdini scrapbooks.

While the top levels are expensive, bear in mind that a substantial portion is tax-dectible.

Thanks Richard and Bill. I did ask and, yes, learned the scrapbooks are only available at the top level.

Tax-deductable I didn't know. Thanks for that.

It was renew my Magic Castle membership or get Ask Alexander, and I'm afraid the Castle won out this year. But maybe I'll get a windfall in 2011. :)

Well, now that I'm into the Ask Alexander Genii files via my Genii subscription, I'm hooked. The Genii access is a total gateway drug. Think I'm going for a Charlier level subscription for $95. This is just such an amazing resource.

I can't even begin to tell you how many hours I've spent digging around in Ask Alexander.

I've been on it all day. And that's just with my Genii access. I'll go wild when my Charlier kicks in. However, I do need to learn some of the search tricks.

Hey, I even searched my own name and found two little blurbs in Genii about me when I was a kid. I'd forgotten all about those. :)
