Now Taking Orders for the "The Berglas Effects" Deluxe Edition

Postby Richard Kaufman » October 17th, 2010, 4:35 pm

Since many of you seem to be eager to pre-order the Deluxe Edition of "The Berglas Effects," who am I to say no!

So, read the following before ordering:

Special Binding: Yes. Some sort of leather.

Slipcase: Possibly (if I go for a full leather binding this is less likely).

Extras: At least three pieces of memorabilia (handbills, tickets, etc., from David's career); possibly an extra routine; possibly a fourth DVD. Trust me: you'll get your money's worth.

And of course these 100 copies are signed by Berglas and myself and all are numbered.

I have purposefully kept the number of copies of the deluxe edition low. I could sell 300, but that would seem greedy and not very exclusive for the price. 100 copies only, and you have my word that I will sell 98 out of the 100 now. (David and I will each keep one.)

Price is $300 postpaid in the US. (Outside the US add $45 for postage via Global Priority Mail.) You may ask why the book is so expensive. First, I'm planning to spend a lot on the binding--in excess of anything on my previous deluxe editions (this one won't be bonded leather); second, they're probably going to be selling for $600 on the secondary market a year from now so it seems fair that David and I should make a little more on these instead of leaving it for the guys who are buying it solely with the intention of reselling it at a profit later on.

When you order, you do so with the understanding that this is a pre-order made prior to publication and that it cannot be cancelled. By ordering you state that you understand that the book will be published sometime between January and March and you further agree that it may take until April for you to receive the book you've paid for; outside the US please allow additional time for shipping. (Sorry to pile on the legal stuff--but it is an unfortunate necessity these days.) Refunds will be given upon request if the book is not delivered by the end of April.

I'll take orders starting today via PayPal ONLY at moobooks@verizon.net. Make sure you give me your full address, phone number, email address, and so on.

Will take orders starting tomorrow via credit card (Visa and Mastercard ONLY) at the Genii office: 301-652-5800 from 10 am to 5 pm.

Note this: There are exactly 100 copies and you will only be allowed to purchase one per person. I don't want to receive any phone calls or PayPal payments from someone saying, "This is for my cousin Lucy" or something like that. If your wife is going to order it for you for the holidays, I'll need to know who it's for.

All successful orders will receive a confirmation by email and will receive periodic updates by email. Margret and I are at the Genii office every day, so you can always call for an update if you get antsy.

These pre-orders are for the deluxe edition only. An announcement will be made regarding orders for the regular edition within the next few months.

I'm going to keep this offer listed here only until half the run has been sold. I want to keep the second half for those who subscribe to Genii but don't read the Forum and will first see the offer in an ad in our December issue.

Hi, sorry this question may be stupid but I'm a newbie. Is this book the Berglas's Card Magic book that you refer to in other posts? I'm a bit confused. Is the book called "The Card Magic of David Berglas" or "The Berglas Effect"? Or are these two different books? Sorry to be so dense,

M

Just a note that the deluxe edition of "The Berglas Effects" has sold out.

We'll start taking orders for the regular edition (not shabby: almost 400 pages with 3 DVDs!) in a few months.

I blame the last few weeks of preparing to close on our first house and in the midst of that discovering we are expecting our first child for having missed out on the deluxe.

:(

I will not miss out on the standard.

Richard, when can we submit orders for the regular edition? And second, does this book contain the actual card stack David Berglas uses?

You can order books now:

http://kaufman.geniimagazine.com/

David uses four different stacks; one of them is in the book. We use that stack to explain how to create a stack, how to memorize it, how to use it, and for "The Berglas Effect." There is also ample footage of David performing with stacked decks on the DVDs which accompany the book.

Thanks for your answer Richard. Can I just ask one thing that I hope will settle an argument between me and a friend? Can you tell me if card numbers 22 and 25 in the stack you feature in this book are the 5 of clubs and the 4 of spades respectively? I DO fully intend to buy the regular edition of the book but could REALLY do with knowing the answer to that now, if you could be so kind?
Thanks.

Hi Richard,

This may be a really silly question but I'm just wondering, is there any advantage in pre-ordering the regular edition now rather than waiting until it's release in April? - apart from the excitement of being among the first to get our hands on all of this stuff?

I know this is one where lots of people (myself included) aren't going to wait for lots of reviews before buying and appreciate you probably want an idea of how large you can make the print run etc.

What I'm really asking is, is there any likelihood that the price of the regular edition will increase post-publication? And how much prior to 1st April do you need the order in order to send the book out on that date?

Sorry for the unusal question and don't want to come across as too much of a skintflint but this will help me decide whether to save my limited means or to cobble them all together right now, as I'm otherwise inclined to do.

Cheers

There is indeed the possibility that the price will go up as we move through production. Also, it's possible that the first printing will sell out.

All I gots to say is that Richard did it for Rosie at the Magi-Fest this weekend... Or SAYS he did... I think he got my [censored] crazy wife to go along with his story to further my trip down the rabbit hole. Or he did it... Nah..... They both are pathological nutbags... Or he did it....grrrrrr.....
RFA Productions yeah... It is cool stuff.

What I did was Any Card at Any Number, and the selection was made by allowing Rosie to think of any card she saw in a fan. I closed the fan and placed it on the table and asked her to think of a number. She did, and then she counted down to the number and found her card.

Had the fanning and the part where a card is looked at been slightly separated in time, it would have been a nice application for a Svengali deck. ;)
