I dont know how they do it, but every auction they produce is better than the last.

I cannot live without a lot of it, but, alas, must find a way. :(

I did discover what I believe to be an erroror at least a statement that could lead to an errorin the note on the description of lot #138 (first edition, first impression of Greater Magic):

The first impression of Greater Magic contains a chapter titled Old and New Magic that was replaced by another, titled Magicana and written by Leo Rullman in all subsequent editions. [Emphasis mine.]

I believe this can be construed to mean that the second and third impressions of the book have the Magicana chapter when in fact they do not.

The new chapter did not appear until the fourth impression thus making it the second edition. The note should have read that the first edition (not impression) had the Old and New Magic chapter.

The catalog just arrived and what a beauty it is. It has very informative descriptions and tons of photos of many of the lots. There something about holding a hard copy in your hands that I can't describe. I guess it's the collector in me. All I know is that if you collect magic, you should have this in your library. Better yet? Win something at the auction. :)

How fun to see Lot #13, the Demon Head Automaton!

Four cards are selected. The demon's eyes move from side to side, and its mouth opens and closes. The deck is placed in the Demon's mouth. Two selected cards then appear from its mouth and two from the top of its head. Crafted by a ventriloquist figure maker and standing 27" high.

I was just looking at this last night in Hoffman's Modern Magic (p 458) and BANG! There it is!

To me, the gem of the collection is the Csuri notes...Wow!!!

(The most surprising dollar value to me is the expected 150/250 for the Wow Book Test)

A little more than half way over and prices are doing well. Fulves material drew amazing prices. A complete set of Sphinx went off the charts. More later.

Many items are being either driven or bought by internet bidders. Maybe there is some new blood in the game?

Some of it was mine...all over the floor. At least I don't have to justify spending over half a grand on Dai Vernon's celluloid sixth finger to my significant other. :o

To some, Vernon's props are sacred.

I treasure the first edition of the Dai Vernon Book of Magic that he autographed to me: "with great admiration for your wonderful books" or something along those lines. I wouldn't part with it for any amount of money.

I have decks of cards handled by certain people, Jennings and Dingle, that aren't signed or anything, but I know what they are. Watching Jennings do 50 tricks and then having him hand me the deck to keep is a great moment. But since the deck isn't signed in any way, it'll just go into the junk heap when I die.
