Happened to turn it on this morning, saw Lance doing a pre-taped segment with the Princess Card Trick. "I may have found your card by magic, but you can do REAL magic by making a pledge..." and so on. Short, clean and to the point.

I actually watched the opening last night after at least a decade of not seeing any. I was planning on watching quite a bit, but then Jerry made a Nazi joke and I sort of lost interest.

Gord, you should have stayed tuned-in through today. Although I didn't hear his Nazi joke, I DID watch Jerry try to get himself out of trouble, after an off-handed comment about him having to watch porn because he's too old for "hankey pankey." Then he introduced singer Taylor Dayne, who was obviously flustered. It all started with a rant about being 84 years old. Jerry Lewis needs to be AWAY from TV cameras since he can no longer control what he says and is sometimes irrational. The guy is 84, so he no longer has anything to prove and only a reputation to destroy (assuming you thought he had talent in the first place, which I never did).

Does this remind you of a has been magician/memory expert? I think he has past his prime. Every time he shows up he dinegrates himself.

No, not in the slightest.

Just because you are past your prime, doesn't necessarily mean that you are no longer good or don't have something to offer.

For example John Calvert is certainly physically past his prime but still exudes more charisma and showmanship than 99.9% of magicians.

I know MANY old/older performers who are (were, when still around) still in fine/brilliant fettle:

1) Sinatra in his late 70's was still great. I saw him 18 times from 1975 to 1992. The 1992 concert was better than the 1975 one!
2) Maurice Chevalier
3) Mark Raffles (90?)
4) Dai Vernon (97?)
5) George Burns (100)
6) Bob Hope (100)
7) Harry Lorayne (early 80's)
8) Jazz greats improve (imho) with age: Ellington, Basie, Armstrong...
9) Billy McComb
10) Slydini
11) Marlene Dietrich (90?)
