According to Nick Trost it "was originated by Billy O'Connor and was first explained in his 'After the Four Ace Trick" in The Magic Wand, June-September 1935."

The O'Connor write-up may well have been the first to see print. But, there is reason to believe that the force itself was not invented by him, and is older than that reference.
