The moral of the story is either look after your magic table, or don't share the bill with a clog dancer... not sure which.

Re: Sid Lorraine Blog
Talking about Sid Lorraine the oddest thing happened to me today. I was doing a kid show today for very young children, the average age of which was three years old. I was lucky enough to get one 4 year old and one 5 year old in the audience but that was about it. Virtually all the kids were Chinese just to complicate matters.
The show went well despite the young age and when I finished the booker made an announcement that little Johnny or whatever the hell his name was had a present for me. The four year old came up and handed me a big envelope. I then couldn't resist doing an encore using my Letter routine which has been explained on another thread in all its wonderful glory.
When I got home I opened the envelope and was very surprised to see a magic magazine from 1988. It was the one put out by Repro Magic and edited by Walt Lees. Al Koran had his three card monte routine in there and there was an article by Barry Richardson. There was a sticker on the magazine and a handwritten note by someone or other saying "Part of the Sid Lorraine estate"
I have no idea who the four year old was that gave me the present and nobody came up to me saying they had anything to do with magic.
All very odd I must say.

Continuing his trip through England, Sid meets Will Goldston and shows him a thing or two in Smoking Goldston.
Re: Sid Lorraine Blog
Sid's been busy digging through his files.
Turns out, according to his last "tweet", that Sid's found the image that details the inner workings of the Rutherford Rising Cigarette. It's pretty crazy. No wonder it fooled Goldston.
You should see it.

Re: Sid Lorraine Blog
Sid's rising cigarette performance went over so well, they made him an honourary member in the London Magician's Club (an organization which ceased in the 1930s).
He also brought out some old memorabilia including his membership card (now over 80 years old) and his medallion. Looking closely at the membership card it mentions Will Goldston as the 1st Vice President and Houdini as the president.

While at the London Magic Club, Sid saw some magic from a young magician about his age (23 at the time) by the name of Ned Williams.
Although most everyone today will probably know him better as Robert Harbin.
He also had the chance to find out about some of the practical jokes that went on behind the counter at Davenports in London. Find out how Harbin "Hooked" Davenport: http://bit.ly/b8CJqo

Re: Sid Lorraine Blog
Have you ever wondered where the "Red Snapper" (or "Wonder Plug") came from? Maybe not.
It turns out it's based on a (very surprising and magical) G.W. Hunter trick using a metal tube and a pencil. It also turns out that we have Sid to thank for carrying the idea across the Atlantic where it now resides in many joke shops and magic kits.
Read all about it (and Sid's memories of G.W. Hunter) in Red Snapper Hunt before heading out to track down some metal tubes to try it.

Continuing in the series of answers to questions you never thought to ask:
Sid Lorraine explains how to untie a knot tied in a human hair (and how to make members of the Magic Circle look strange and silly in the process). He also gets to meet Wilfrid Jonson and shares his presentation for the "Four Burglars" with G.W. Hunter.

A flashback to the days when you could fool magicians with the 10-20 Force. Some fun ideas this week as Sid talks about the characters he wasn't able to meet during his trip to England:
Chris Van Bern's novel act and some of his unique promotional strategies.
Billy O'Connor, a magician with "52 Assistants", and his clever use of the "Instanto" deck.
Tom Fagan's finale for the rising cards.

In one of his notebooks, ca. 1928, under the heading of "Billet Reading", Sid describes a brand new technique shown to him in England by J.T. Garrus. Soon after he sent it to Joe Ovette and Ted Annemann and it seems to have caught on.
