Ron Wilsons new book, Tales from the Uncanny Scot, was delivered to my door a little before 5:00 PM this afternoon. I finished it a little before 7:00 PM, having read it from cover to cover. I could literally not put in down. The stories that Ron tells of his years at the Castle and all the people he encountered along the way during his lifetime in magic are treasures. I know now more about the Castle and the likes of Vernon, Miller, Crandall, Platt, Jennings, Ose and company, in spite of being a twenty-seven year member of the AMA. The photos in the book are priceless. I had never seen most of them before. If you are a student of magic or a student of the history of magic, you need to purchase this book. Did I mention that the purchase price also includes a DVD, which includes some of Rons reminiscences, as well as the teaching of his Highland Hop effect, as well as instruction on the second deal? Do yourself a favor and buy this book for yourself and for someone whom you know who loves magic.

I saw a copy of the book in San Diego (though it wasn't being sold yet because the DVDs weren't ready). It looked very good--a real professional job, and there's a deluxe numbered edition.

The deluxe edition isn't described on his site aside from "signed and numbered". Does anyone know more about the deluxe edition? (slipcase, different binding etc?)

Heck, I'm still looking for a copy of his original "The Uncanny Scot" - have been ever since it was first recommended to me! (IIRC, by Jonathan Townsend). I've only found two used copies: one for $150 and one for more than $200 - Yikes!

I will be able to get this latest one though.

Hi Everyone,

I received my copy and spent the evening reading, and enjoying, the book. Filled with great memories and pictures that struck a chord with me. This book is for anyone and everyone that wants to know more about the early days of the Magic Castle.

The DVD is great. R. Paul Wilson does a fine job of learning and performing Ron's Highland Hop. Nick Lewin leads Ron through a good interview and introduces some clips of Ron performing some of his classic routines.

For those of you in the Los Angeles area, Ron will be doing a book signing at the Magic Castle on August 10. I will be there and I hope you will consider getting this book.

Just got my copy in horrible condition. (book was sent with no padding in the priority mail envelope) Hopefully I can get a replacement. Curious of how other folks recieved their book and if there was any packing materials used. Mine was sent from a fullfillment house so hopefully it was just a case of a bad packer etc.

edit: UGH just realized I have deluxe 92/100. Now I wonder what my chances are of getting a replacement deluxe edition.

Just contact Ron regarding your replacement. Books are not usually sold in the numbered order.

The only email I could find was the one the paypal transaction processed through (book@uncannyscot.com) but good to hear I may still have a chance for a deluxe edition.

I would assume that all the books are packed the same way. He's a novice at this.

I haven't been on Forums for quite some time. I don't mail out the books. They are sent by a large Fulfillment House in Pasadena, a wonderful company in the shipping business, hiring only handicapped employees.

Steve and I would always replace a book received in a damaged condition.

I did notice the fullfillment house was specialized and kudos for that. I have some cousins who were employed by a similar business here on the East coast and I know they found great pride in their jobs. I mentioned it to Steve earlier when he contacted me via email but happy to tell you here as well; the book looks very well done and despite the dent and dings to the book I did take a brief look and can't wait to fully delve into it when the replacement arrives. Having never been to the Castle I am eager to read through your memories.

Just finished reading my copy. It's a great history lesson about the early days of the Magic Castle and Ron's touring/cruises, etc. Couldn't put it down.
