OK, I think it get it. She's bent over BACKWARDS!
And part of her disappears?
Probably not a good idea to show her standing next to a box that more than a foot taller than she is in the promo pictures.
You should probably edit in a shot showing how she's in the box since it's not clear from the demo that there's ever a person IN the thing.

Re: Sumer The New Illusion
Whatever you do after this trick, it better not involve a thin base. This box seems designed to show the audience just how thin a space your assistant can fit into.
Re: Sumer The New Illusion
Hi,
I think that exactly the thin box is the genius part of the Sumer. An assistant is as tall as the box.
This assistant in the picture is standing on the floor while the box in its base.
To broke in three! This is the essence of the Sumer.
Here is a longer promo video:

Yes, but just as the illusion design is deceptively thin, so is the image of her standing beside the thing on the floor deceptive. It LOOKS much bigger than she is.

I don't think the word "genius" applies when discussing this illusion, which is sitting on a wedge base.

Re: Sumer The New Illusion
Not available from SNAP Illusions, how good could it be?
Re: Sumer The New Illusion
Hi All,
Thanks for all your remarks.
The Sumer is an original Saman Zerin illusion.
It's available only on Illuzionline.

I'd imagine jack would tell you approx 6-8 weeks for delivery... as long as you prepaid of course.

Hi Richard,
You are right,
but what is the connection between Sumer and Snap?
I'd be interested in direct opinions about the Sumer illusion.
Thanks for understanding.

The first thing that looked awkward to me was the doors opening towards the audience, obviously blocking the view of her getting in.

Re: Sumer The New Illusion
Is this about reenacting the Whitechapel events onstage one trick at a time?
How does one present such an act of gross misogyny?
The magic community, clever detectives, have reconstructed the events and found the means by which the gruesome leftovers were produced. Here for the first time we have "what happened to Catherine Eddowes"
For example, what would it mean if the UPS guy brought in his trolly with three boxes, two on the trolly and one in hand. After the magician signed for them and tore off the brown paper he found a wiggling hand and foot sticking out. The UPS guy hands over the third box and the lot are assembled. Out comes a lovely assistant. Hmmm?

Oddly enough I now know who the bad magic photos fellow is. I met him a couple of weeks ago in a magic shop and he confessed it was he who put the thing together. I shall not reveal his identity except to say that he is a Canadian.
As for Jonathon's reference to Jack the Ripper oddly enough I have mentioned the chap in my memoirs. I like to have unsavoury characters in my book. He is only one of many. Oddly enough I have found that all the wicked people I have associated with to be far nicer than the "respectable" set. I am not quite sure about Jack the Ripper though. Of course I have only met him in the spirit world and he has actually told me his true identity providing I don't give it away. He seems a nice chap but a little odd.

Hi All,
What I really wanted: serious answers!
I got sarcasm instead of correct answers.
This is your way not mine!
I thought magicians like new illusions.

Re: Sumer The New Illusion
As noted above, I believe that the cabinet is too thin and it does appear too tall; she should have space to stand on the base next to it (perhaps riding out on the base as its wheeled out; then she can step down so the doors can be opened).
If possible, I would have spots for both hands and feet; one on each side of the box. Since it appears that you cannot show her in the box, I think her hands and feet sticking out of both sides would emphasize her ostensible position. (And Id use two different colored scarves for the hands.)
Furthermore, I think removing the center section after dividing her in thirds and folding the sections over destroys the illusion: It becomes too perfect and the result is that the audience is left with the onlyand correctsolution.
Seriously yours,
Dustin

What you really wanted was for people to tell you that you are great?
You got serious answers. You just didn't like them.

I appreciate and thanks for your ideas,

Then you just proved Mr. Goat's point. You insisted on and received thoughtful, constructive criticism. You then dismissed that criticism to tell us how great it is.

Re: Sumer The New Illusion
I'm liking Jon's idea. Making the base into a delivery cart, and the illusion into boxes would change the illusion from "Where is she hiding?" to "Where did she come from?"
The first question is magic death, but the second question could be gold.

Re: Sumer The New Illusion
Despite the fancy website, the illusion is still poor, and you still don't show her getting into the cabinet. And if just looking at the thing doesn't give away the method, then when you remove the center box it certainly does.

Hi Richard,
You are right, the website of the Sumer is very spectacular.
I think just a few illusion designer have such a cool website.
For me the Sumer is a spectacular and astonishing illusion.
Those who are working with the Sumer illusion are satisfied with it.

You are being willfully ignorant. My point is that it doesn't matter if the website is nice because the illusion is CRAP.

Nimrud:
here's my thoughts. I love the idea behind the illusion.. but it has fatal flaws. You've been brainwashed by Samin... and he seems to work best with people that he can talk into buy his products without question.. as they ALL seem to ask for opinions and then don't want to accept opinion.
I love the way it works. The box that the girl gets into is not thick enough.. and needs a graphic on it as in the original idea by Mr. Zerin
the blades should be re-deigned to go in from the SIDE .. not from back to front. From an audience point of view, they simply do not have enough distance to travel to be effective...
The hands have always been a weak part of the trick.. Yours are better than the awful gloves in the first version..
It's a good start with a clever method.. unfortunately, the method is more clever than the builder.
It is NOT a definative illusion... but it's a good start. One of these days I'll improve it and build a good one.
