Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
very cool.
its much more limited in registration this year.
And from what I understand, it will be interesting.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
the MCA weekend has 50% registrants.
so hopefully those who have gone in
previous years and want to go this year
are or already register before they
are turned away.
its going to be different than previous years.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
We're slowly releasing information about the convention as we confirm the details through the MCA Blog.
Jason England is speaking about gambling collectibles and also performing on the Friday night. Plus there are some other updates about the schedule which have just been posted.
See you in May!

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
I knew a lot of the stuff on the blog a couple of months ago.
So as promised my lips were sealed until released.
hopefully my mom's memorial will be taking place
Friday night at Magic, Inc.
Details on that as I get them worked out.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
OK ... I will start a separate thread about this.
I just announced on Twitter not long ago...
and now hear. So you'll have a heads up.
But we have tentively scheduled my mom's memorial
for Friday May 14th at Magic, Inc.
And this specifically for the magician's or anyone
who lives within Chicago who wants to pay their respects.
Since my mom was loved and respected by so many magicians
particularly those from the past 40 gatherings.
I really wanted to make it special.
And those who are in for the weekend to be able to
attend and pay their respects.
This will be one of the other Friday evening going on's.
And if you ever been to any parties at Magic, Inc back
int he 1970's that my p's put on then you'll have
an idea of what this will be like too.
More information will come soon.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
Although I that there's at least one other Jim Maloney in magic (up in Buffalo, I believe), I don't know of any other Jim Maloney who is as obsessed with Nate Leipzig as I am.
So yeah...it's me, and it should be fun. I'm looking forward to meeting up with some new folks and sharing some of what I've uncovered about Leipzig.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
I'm really looking forward to this and to seeing Walter Zaney Blaney perform/discuss his famous levitation. Here's a great clip from one of his early performances of it on the Tonight Show:

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
I'm looking forward to seeing Walter as well.
It was nice receiving an email from letting
us know he'll be there and that he's looking
forward in seeing us.
I'm also looking forward to the presentation
on Fu Manchu set for Saturday.
There is so much available on his father
and many know little about David.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
We're getting very close to the convention - we're less than one week away!
We've just announced another addition to the programme. On Friday evening at 8:00 pm, we will be screening "McComb Uncorked". This never before seen footage, shot at the 31 Faces North magic conference in Toronto, features Max Maven interviewing the late Billy McComb shortly before he passed away in 2005.
More information about the screening, and many of the other convention presenters is available at the MCA Blog: http://magicol.wordpress.com/2010/05/06 ... -uncorked/

Ah, but Dustin...you can take pleasure in knowing that you have full reign over the Forum while Richard and I are away.* ;)

* Though I'm only really flying in and out to do my presentation...I unfortunately won't be able to be there for the entire conference.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
Well the MCA2010 is now over and I will be re-caping
over the next week.
Not only this years but a little of last years.
I will note this.
We performed on "Tricks Old Seldom Seen" which was
back after several many many oodles of years.
I believe it hasn't been around since Walter Gyderson
was alive. Anywho...
I assisted my father (his left arm)
in performing "The Snake" a very rare effect.
and I think the reception from the crowd wasn't
only on behalf of seeing my father performing but was also something never seen by any (if anything extreme few magicians)
and many came up to say they were fooled.
More on that.
Otherwise, it a pleasure meeting James over the weekend.
Saw Richard but miss Jim's lecture.
And seeing many and meeting new folks as well.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
I had a lot of fun at the conference, despite only being there for about 24 hours. I was able to catch the Friday evening presentations and then most of Saturday's programming (minus the evening show, unfortunately). Lots of great talks all around, and I have much to follow up on.
Perhaps the biggest treat for me was the surprise appearance of Leipzig's grandniece, who I have corresponded with in the past. She brought some of her scrapbooks and photographs and it was such a pleasure to look through them.
It was great to finally meet many of you in person for the first time. I wish I could have been there for the whole conference.

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
I was quite pleased with the conference this year. The new facility, although still not as good as a downtown location might be, was a big improvement. A definite highlight was Walter Blaney's final performance of his Anti-Gravity Board (ladder suspension).

Re: MCA2010 :: who's going?
I too was very happy with this year's MCA weekend. It was definitely a thrill to see Walter Blaney's performance, and he very thoughtfully offered signed color photos at no cost. A fine gentleman.
Another highlight for me was Will Houstoun from the UK. His talk on Robert Hellis was very well done, and I purchased his books "Hellis in Wonderland" and "The Notebook" as soon as I could. This young man is now researching Professor Hoffmann.
Excellent talks from the honored guests George Daily and Mike Caveney, great information on doing research, a host of other fine talks all made for a very satisfying three days. I enjoyed "The Snake" as well, and since the Head Genii was there I'm sure we'll be reading more about the event. But kudos to David Ben and his fine crew.
