Maybe I've lost my sense of humour, but - I don't "get" it! :(

Where is the joke in this? How is it funny? Does the comedy only work in Swedish?

Why did you make it?

Why did you post it on the green hell place and then link to that post?

Very odd.

It's not remotely funny, nor does it make any sense whatsoever.

No we shouldn't stop making cartoons, but YOU should definitely stop making cartoons.

This i***t thinks it's okay to post cartoons that are insulting to other people. He posted an insulting cartoon about me. I responded angrily. He didn't understand. His response was - "I didn't do the cartoon, I just posted it". You can see his attitude above - "It's just a simple cartoon." Please! HL.

As a cartoon it fails across the board: the art isn't very good and the set-up and punch line make no sense.

I fail to see any purpose in insulting Richard or Harry.

I'm curious - does this approach usually get results?

Silly question, but to assuage your curiosity - a) if I wasn't angry, I wouldn't respond. b) I believe that stupidities, insults, and etc., should be "responded to." Perhaps then those who post the insults will see the error(s) of their ways. c)One great result is - IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER! and d)see Richard's above. HARRY L.

Re: Will he survive - Kaufman?

Fair enough, but I don't think it was that silly a question (remember - there are only silly answers).

I've always found that a teaspoon of honey will catch more flies than a gallon of vinegar. There is the old adage that you cannot shake hands with a closed fist. If one replies to every slight with anger and bile, one runs the risk of a reputation as an angry, and often intractable person.

I had to print off the email Harry sent me because so many people wanted to see it. I know of others who swap 'Lorayne email' stories to see who got the most invective or SHOUTING in their chastisements. I'm certain that if these disagreements had been conducted in a relaxed manner then these meetings would never happen. Fighting fire with fire only leads to more fire.

This was the reason for my question; sending people angry emails may be cathartic for Harry, but it also seems to add to the list of people who joke about him, both in public and private. I'm also curious if Harry has ever tried to resolve a dispute in a concilialatory manner.

Without malice,

Ian

Silly in my opinion; nothing to do with the subject, and so on. Immaterial. A "teaspoon of honey" may work for you, and it will work for me when I feel that it will work for me. Quite frankly, I'll stake my reputation against yours any time, under any circumstances. I don't know about your "list of people" but I'll wager any amount you want, publicly or otherwise, that the list that's "FOR ME"

(got cut off someone) - to continue: ... is much, MUCH, much, longer than "the list" you speak about, and that we have only you to believe. Also, there's no "dispute" to resolve here. We're talking about an i***t who posts insulting - TO OTHERS - cartoons, or whatever. So what "dispute" are you talking about? Tell you what, I have a great idea - you "resolve" whatever you want in any way you want - I will fight to the death for your right to do so. Give me the same privilege. Please also keep in mind that YOU STARTED this "dispute" with a post that has/had nothing to do with the subject at hand. The i***t under discussion posted an insulting cartoon about ME, not about you. When there's a cartoon posted that insults YOUYou and I have gone through this before - so I'm not at all surprised.

I am a lousy computer person. Got cut off again! What I started to type was - "When there's a cartoon posted that insults YOU, you "handle" it however you like. In no way, will I tell you whether to use "a teaspoon of honey" (hah!) or "a gallon of vinegar." It will be YOUR call - as it is MY CALL now. Yes, you and I have gone through this kind of thing before, so I'm not at all surprised. Absolutely without malice. HARRY,

I have located the source of the problem, a Swedish book on cartooning entitled, "Och Klagade Vad Han Genom Smorgasbord" ("I Am The Funny Man and So Can You Too Be").

This is all just a cultural misunderstanding. In Sweden (and, strangely, here in Canada), there is absolutely no one with a sense of humor. So books explaining how to be funny are very popular. The Swedes (and the Canadians) all know these books and they know that if you follow the rules in the books you are "being funny" and the proper response is to laugh.

So, to a Swede (or a Canadian) the Kaufman cartoon is very, very funny because it follows rule 45: "Och klagade att forstadd!" (or, "Having surprise at end starting the laughing").

"HAHAHAHAhaha! ATT FORSTADD!!! hahahaha!"

And that sure gets them off the dirty hook, Bob. The thing is, we're actually not discussing that. Nobody - well except some in Sweden - would have know about these sillinesses if that guy (from Sweden) wouldn't have thought it funny to post them here and on other forums. Tells you something about his sense of hum...no, his sense of anything. HL.

There is no system, Harry: it falls lower on the Active Topics list until someone posts a new response. But it's always going to be listed in the "Buzz" category even when it falls off the active topics list--which it should shortly because there's nothing here remotely worth discussing.

I am amused at Kendall chattering about honey being better than vinegar when by nature vinegar is his usual dish. I have had him going berserk in the past and I didn't see much honey in his responses. I am also amused by Harry's response since I have one of his self help books "Secrets of Mind Power" where I swear he also goes on about honey being better than vinegar.

I agree with Mr Farmer. I have never met a single Canadian with a sense of humour. Canada is so boring that even the female impersonaters are women.

It was a great book and I think it still is. I read it when I was 18 years old and I found it helpful. Mind you, I bet you didn't practice what you preached then too. You come from New York. Honey ain't a feature of New Yorkers. Vinegar is in their blood.

Saying that everybody from a certain country is this or that or not this or that is pretty i***t. Then again, since the beginning of mankind, there has never been a lack of i***ts.

But people from different countries DO have certain character istics. I have lived and worked in many countries so I know. And not only countries. Even certain regions of countries have certain characteristics.

And Canadians ARE boring! And they don't understand humour at all. I think they need to get a sense of it.

Morning Mark,

I think you'll find I've never gone berserk at you, or anyone on the web for that matter. I've always been polite in our exchanges, and you get frustrated when you can't rile me.

As for Harry, he's still miffed because I made a less than flattering comment about Mathematical Wizardry. If he were to look back, he'd see that I've never been anything but completely polite with him, too.

Take care, Ian
