Magic At The Beach 2010, Myrtle Beach, SC, USA

Postby Mike Heidtman » November 10th, 2009, 5:53 pm

Myrtle Beachs premiere magic convention, Magic At The Beach 2010, will be held Thursday, January 14th through Saturday, January 16th 2010 at the beautiful Ocean Dunes Resort and Conference Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA. Convention room rates at the resort are $49/night and all rooms have an ocean-view.

Id say we are off to a good start already.

On Thursday night a Welcome Reception and an Escape Themed Cabaret Show will be held in the Houdini Lounge for all convention registrants. Food and drink will be served and an impressive display of authentic Houdini props and magic items can be seen presented by one of the United States most serious Houdini collectors.

And so the fun continues

Friday and Saturday are pleasantly paced with competitions for cash and prizes in both close-up and stage presentations, workshops and lectures from some of the most notable names in the world of magic, a Cabaret show, a Close-up Show (featuring FISM winners Rick Merrill and Rocco Silano amongst others) and a room full of dealers and vendors offering a wide variety of magic miscellanea.

Not having a great time yet?

Then you should know that

Saturday night offers up a Public Gala Show at the beautiful Palace Theatre to benefit The Childrens Museum of South Carolina. Some artists who have already committed to the show include World Champions of Magic, Shawn Farquhar from Canada and Soma from Hungary. David Kaplan, the runaway hit of the 2008 Combined IBM/SAM Convention, will perform and Illusionist Jay Mattioli from Americas Got Talent will be featured. We have also added the services of Ken Scott as Master of Ceremonies for the show. A select block of tickets for this public show have been set aside and will be provided complimentary to all convention registrants.

So thats the basics of course theres the bragging rights that you attended the first magic convention of 2010 anywhere, let alone the first magic convention in Myrtle Beach ever. Oh yeah, theres also the premium magic swag bags which all advance registrants will receive filled with unique props and a collectable convention program featuring magic submitted by all the performers and much, much more. So make plans now to attend and please help spread the word because this event is not to be missed!

See www.MagicAtTheBeach.org for more about the convention, artists and schedule.

Well see you there.

Myrtle Beach is a great place to visit and in only 8 weeks it will be THE place to see some of the greatest magicians in the world including three World Champions, a FISM originality award winner, and an impressive host of others!

Incredible lectures and shows will be seen by those who have registered for Magic At The Beach 2010. We have also updated our 'Contest' page at the website with further details about the cash awards and prizes that will be given to those who win the close-up and stage competitions. Be sure to register as soon as possible as the number of contestants is very limited!

To our already amazing lineup we have added Eric Hall - Escape Artist and Magician Extraordinaire. Eric will be performing the Thursday Night Escape-Themed Cabaret Show in the "Houdini Lounge".

We have also just included Chastain Criswell. Chastain has performed all over the eastern seaboard, offering his From the Stall lecture to magic Clubs and Groups with great response. Chastain Criswell is a magic inventor with many magic tricks in print (Linking Ring, Magic Magazine, Juggle Magazine, and Semi Automatic Card Tricks) as well as for sale to the magic community (Tag, Deface, Barely Chewed, and Cartel Coins). Chastain has been performing professionally for over 15 years, and has won multiple magic competitions. Most recently Chastain has performed at the prestigious Wizardz Magic Theater in Kissimmee, Florida. Chastain specializes in stage, comedy stand up magic, and close up magic, which makes him a well rounded performer. Dont miss his performance or his lecture!

The public is invited to join us at The Palace Theatre for a fantastic Gala Show to benefit the Children's Museum of South Carolina. A select block of tickets have been set aside for this "Champions of Magic" show and will be given complimentary to our registrants. But remember, the sooner you register, the better the seating!

To learn even more please visit our website at www.MagicAtTheBeach.org . Performers bio's, schedule of events, registration information, dealers, resort information and much more can be found there.

This is stacking up to be a truly special event and is suitable for families and magicians of all ages. Help spread the word amongst your compeers. Thank you to all who have registered already but remember - there is always room for more !!

We'll see you there !!

It's a shame that, for whatever reason - but I've been told it's because of a 'problem' between two magic clubs, and that's a shame - this convention is the same weekend as SCAM, in the same state. Surely, planning could have been better. I feel both conventions will be less than they could be because of this - fewer attendees, fewer dealers, etc. Maybe next year will be better?

All,

This issue has been adressed previously. Let me emphasise that Magic At The Beach, LLC and its events are not associated with any other club, ring or organization. My team and I did everything possible to avoid the date conflict. The other event changed their date several times prior to settling on the same date(s). It is now a choice for all magi to make as to which event they will attend. Rest assured that our registration grows daily and our dealer's room is locked - we are not accepting anymore dealers at this time (see the list above).

Compare rates, schedules, artists and venues and make an educated choice. Fortunately, I feel, that a lesson has been learned already and the events will be held on different dates in 2011. By the way, our dates for Magic At The Beach 2011, featuring David Williamson and others, are January 13-15, 2011 in beautiful Myrtle Beach, SC.

Yours in Magic,

*** Correction ***

It's been realized that in the previous post listing all the dealers at Magic At The Beach 2010 some important ommissions occured. Allow me to correct that now:

Mark Mason - JB Magic
It seems as though that at every convention Mark Mason sets up a dealers table someone always comes up to me and says, Hey, did you see that effect Marks selling?. Always something different, always something fun - thats Mark Mason. Check out his exclusive line of magic products.

Magic and Mischief
From the resort town of Helen, Georgia comes John Brooks' Magic and Mischief. John has been in the retail magic business for over 25 years. With his years of experience, John always has something unique and new for everyone. Check out Magic and Mischief at Magic At The Beach.

We'll see you Magic At The Beach !!

The gala show tonight was fantastic. The talent line-up, well, it speaks for itself. All presented wonderful performances and got great responses from the huge crowd.

All the events of this convention were very well run with nary a hitch that I saw. A job very well done by all involved. A big thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event happen! I truely enjoyed every minute.

Registering for 2011 is a no-brainer!

Wow,

Thank you for your compliments. We are very pleased with everything ... from the staff at the resort that worked with us to the incredible talent that made the shows, lectures and workshops great.

There were actually two events this weekend: the convention and the benefit show. The acts which presented at The Palace Theatre last night were not only polished and entertaining they were all professionals, too. From rehearsals, meet and greets with contest winners, the performance, then appearing for more meet and greet at the After Party, all were friendly and willing to take the time to pose for a photo or sign a program. Class acts - one and all.

We are already planning for MATB2011 January, 13 - 15, 2011 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Keep your eye on our website as things progress. But now for some rest.

The winners of awards from Magic At The Beach are:

Close-up
1st place: Michael Bairefoot
2nd place: Merritt Ambrose

Stage
1st place: Michael Trixx
2nd place: Brandon Wagster

Congratulations to you all !!

Congratulations to all those involved with the production of Magic at the Beach. I had a blast. I think I had so much fun I probably slept a whole 12 hours during my entire stay! Great location, amazing theatre, stellar line up, awesome people and a sushi restaurant that stayed open till 1 AM ... sweet. If you missed this year you missed a wicked good time.

Cheers,
