Josh Jay Injury

Postby CraigMitchell » August 15th, 2009, 4:54 pm

Just learnt that Josh Jay has shattered his left wrist, and broke both bones in his arm. He is currently undergoing surgery on the arm.

I know that I speak for everyone in wishing him a speedy recovery !

youch. I am actually still regaining skills and mobility lost when my right hand & wrist were mangled in an accident about 8 years ago. Hopefully he recovers more quickly than I.

So sorry to hear this. Spent quite a bit of time with Josh when he was here in Dublin last year and hooked up again in Blackpool. He is definatley one of the good guys. I know I speak on behalf of all his friends in Ireland in wishing him a quick recovery.

Josh -- Here's wishing you a speedy recovery.

And best of luck to Andi Gladwin, Josh's partner in Vanishing Inc., on his now solo foray at MAGIC Live.

Josh,

I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you rapidly recover. Take care of yourself. Don't do any push-ups for a few days.

Josh,

I hope you are up and back at 'em soon so you can shuffle off to the Southern Lecture Tour later this year. You have two months to get well :)

Yours,
Scott

Considering the extent of his injuries, I don't think Josh will be doing any lectures before the end of the year.

I heard it was some sort of boating accident while he was visiting his mother.

"This was not a boating accident!"
--Richard Dreyfuss

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

To use his words, it will be a "long road ahead" for him.

Josh just called me. He's heading to bed tonight before his second surgery tomorrow. Because he was on HEAVY pain killers, he didn't want to be recorded but wanted to let people know what happened and what will be happening as he goes forward. His surgery is at 1PM (EST US) tomorrow. I'll be writing up this interview and posting it just before that time tomorrow so that our thoughts are with him at that time. He's very worried, but at the same time very optimistic as to what the outcome will be. I'll let you know as soon as I finish the article and post it so that you can hear from him personally on this. The one thing that he wanted to make sure got out there was how much he appreciates all the support and encouragement that he has received from the magic community. At times we get caught up in our petty rivalries and focused on issues related to our art that mean so little compared to a potentially career threatening injury like this. Your positive thoughts and messages have meant an a lot to him even though the injury prevents him from getting in front of a keyboard and responding to your well wishes.

Please RT: As I write this, Josh Jay is 1 hr into a surgery to repair massive trauma to his left arm and hand. This is an awful injury for a magician that does what he does. Have him in your thoughts..

Found the following posted by Andi Gladwin on the Vanishing Inc Magic website (which by the way is excellent) dated 24th Aug -

"As many of you have heard, Joshua was in a serious boating accident and suffered a major injury to his left arm and wrist. Early prognosis is that Josh will have a rigorous 6-month recovery, with hopes of regaining mobility."

Josh called me while I was in NYC this weekend. He does indeed have several months of recovery & therapy ahead of him, but the prognosis is good. I'll have some more details put together soon. He's very appreciative everyone's best wishes, concern and interest in his recovery!
