Tony Giorgio and Magic Castle

Postby Guest » August 7th, 2005, 9:09 pm

Hey Everyone -

I'm sorry if this has been covered, I know there has been a lot of general discussion, but -

I have never been able to find an account of the original "incident" Episode" - whatever - of what occured with Giorgio at the Castle. Just shards of transcripts and discussion.

Could somebody tell me the actual event that started all the trouble?

Thanks!

Maybe a Google search? But then I would guess you would just get "his side of the story."

I don't think Giorgio's site is still up.

Actually, the site is still there, but it seems to no longer contain anything of interest. Long ago (before the material was removed), I converted the entire site to a PDF so I could digest the material at my leisure. (and no I don't plan on sharing it as it's not mine to share). One sided as it may be, it certainly makes for some interesting reading.

Thanks for the great info everyone - Especially Rich for the Internet Archive, which I never knew about! It's very cool, and has a LOT.

I have actually read many hundreds of paragraphs of these extracts from the depositions. What I was never able to find out is: What was the original "Incident" that started all of the mud-slinging, lawsuits, etc.? I heard at the time that SOMETHING happened while Giorgio was performing at The Castle, perhaps WHAT depends on who you talk to, but I have never heard what (allegedly) happened...

Thanks Again!
Brian

Well, Giorgio would probably say this isn't 100% accurate ...
While Tony was performing in the Close-Up Gallery, he was harrassed by several drunken spectators. He eventually got fed up. What follows next is what all the hubub is about. He may have cursed at them. He believes that the drunken spectators were purposefully placed in the room while he was working by others at The Castle to give him a hard time.
And, there may have been some sort of verbal thing with Mark Wilson.
Tony felt he deserved better than that because he had been performing at the Castle almost since the very beginning, long before any of the people involved in the incident (including most of the board members) had even seen The Magic Castle.

Ahh, Got it.

I guess from this Tony started an attack on the members of the board and all the things we read about on his site (the financial stuff, challenges to various rules) came about as his criticism "generalized" to other "problems" with the board?

Thanks for the clarification on the original even, Richard.

Best -
Brian

Tony demanded an apology. Those involved refused. Tony said he would drop his lawsuit if an apology was forthcoming. None came. He sued.

But given the troubles that the Magic Castle is undergoing (covered in another thread), it would seem that Tony may have a beef. I realize his misgivings are not exactly in line with the Castle's recent problems but there does seem to be a common thread regarding accountability and some may say competence.
