February Issue of Genii Now on its Way to You
Arrived today in Albany, NY. Can't wait to settle down with it, ideally under about 2 electric blankets and maybe some hot coals.

The February issue, with Hiro Sakai on the cover, the subject of a story and also featuring seven of his tricks, is now on its way to you. A great issue!

Re: February Issue of Genii Now on its Way to You
I received mine in Wichita 1/15/09. Didn't crack it open until yesterday due to I had to fly the Cessna 182 and get my flying fix. Damn my first two loves ,flying, magic, can't decide which comes first. I SO wished I could have had the time to meet Geoff Latta. Rock on Richard. Peace to all.

Latta was a force of nature as a close-up magician. I was lucky to have known him during his most creative period.

Re: February Issue of Genii Now on its Way to You
Mine arrived in Seattle yesterday (1/17). GREAT issue! I love the Tom Stone article and I'm looking forward to more. I've admired Hiro Sakai for some time now and it was a treat to be gifted with more of his material. Another highlight (with more to look forward to) is the Bob Read article(s). The only downer of this issue was reading about the death of Vanni Bossi (Latta as well, but I was already aware).
I know it gets old, as I say it too often, but Genii just keeps getting better and better.
Thanks Richard!

Can you tell us Mr. Maric's effect for the psychic cigarette thru coin?

It's the Cigarette through Quarter, exactly as you know it, with the same gimmick. He just presented it as "psychic" mind power causing the solid cigarette to penetrate through the solid coin.

Another Great issue.
I went straight to the Paul Harris article. Got to think of a creative way to use his idea!

Does anyone know if there are plans to release an authorized version of the "Pink Purse Tape" when the Latta books are published?

Given its mention in the reviews I was surprised it was not provided to acompany the commentary.

I see what you mean. Like mentalist's presentation for bending spoons. Larry Jennings kind of did that with his Oil and Water and made it look like real magic like he had magic powers.

Re: February Issue of Genii Now on its Way to You
Mine arrived Monday 1/26.
I haven't even taken it out of the plastic yet (for reasons you already know about). Now I can't find it (for reasons you don't know about because you've never seen my office).
I'm sure it's a wonderful issue just as I'm sure it will turn up soon.

As mentioned elsewhere, mine arrived on January 26. This may be silly, but there seems to be more thickness to the clay-coated stock. Not at all silly are the design and layout improvements for which we can thank the Art Director.
As for content, one sees far less nowadays in many magic books costing at least five times as much as one issue of Genii.
The continuing rotation of great magic thinkers who can also write is also most welcomed.

I like some of the new layout and look in the issue.
It's a joy to read some of Tom Stone's thoughts on magic.
Also thanks for the articles remembering Geoff Latta and Vanni Bossi.
Also the fun mentions of Dr. Horrible and full spread article on Japan's answer to a magical Andy Warhol... Dr. Leon.

Arrived in Malaysia today. I noticed the very first reference is to the winter weather in DC. Not something I miss at all living near the equator. The reference to disasters brought back memories of hours of slogging through the snow in '82 trying to get from a class in DC to Arlington on the day that both a plane crashed into the river by the bridge and the metro crashed in a tunnel.

Well, the fellow in Malaysia is paying a lot more for his airmail subscription to a foreign country. It's not unusual for copies which are sent by that method (which costs more) to arrive before all copies in the USA. But I won't argue with you--it seems crazy to me, too.

Richard - I wanted to PM you on this, but saw you were not accepting them. My subscription is for the International Economy Service - Still much higher than the US price, but not the highest priced service you offer. To give people an idea of the higher costs we pay outside the US, I just ordered a book from your 25 percent off sale in which the shipping brought it back to list price. You may want to check your ordering system there - Everytime I tried to add a second book the shipping cost went up to $35 taking the prices above list.

Got home late last night after seeing the fantastic Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders in NYC - and in the mail was GENII, along with MAGIC mag and MUM. Yikes! Where to start? (Saved the best for last.....) Was awake 'til nearly 4am.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Bob Read piece on Fred Robinson. Great evocative writing and stories as always from Bob, thanks for running it.
