Deck switching

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Deck switching

Postby DR124C » December 24th, 2008, 7:57 pm

I want to be able to switch a deck of cards that are uncased nor held by anything, e.g. rubber bands, etc. The cards cannot be put down (e.g., behind something for even a second), nor be placed in something. It is to appear that I received a shuffled deck and nothing happens, although I have made the switch.

A topit could be used to get rid of the first deck. I thought of a sleeve drop to get the second, but uncased, that risks some cards falling.

Is anything available commercially? Can anyone make a suggestion?

Thank you!

This is old news, but I love to watch it. You will see amazing card (full decks, single cards, etc.) and dice switches on youtube under "Doc's Cold Deck Expose" aka here:

Enjoy.

A deck dropper will do what you need.

I think he's trolling for cold deck moves.

Take care, Ian

Check out Carl Cloutier Topit DVD; a very slick deck switch.
But it takes some guts to pull off.

Simon Aronson has a very easy deck switch inbuilt in one of his memorized cards routines. Clever. You can find it on one of his DVDs.

John Archer has a very bold but effective switch on his "Educating Archer" DVD.

If seated, the Natural Deck Switch (Marlo w/o Tears) rates high on simplicity and impact. (You'll find 10,000 variations across magicdom.) You also might want to check out the Duffie switch, found in Scotty Johnston's Sleightly Adventurous Mischief. There used to be a great little vid floating about...
