“LIFE” Images on Google
In case you have not noticed, Google has some nice images (of adequate resolution) from LIFE magazine in a handy search engine. I have found some dandy stuff there. My favorites have to be of Orson Welles doing magic and also this magical guy. You fans of the Tony Curtis version of Houdini will be ecstatic.

Re: “LIFE” Images on Google
Here is George Karger, photographer of Stars of Magic and who I believe had some LIFE covers to his credit.
I was a bit bummed that there were no shots of Johnny Carson doing magic (or even just fiddling with a deck of cards), but here he is doing something else I always wished to do (I live in a highly light polluted area so an investment in a good telescope is a waste). This is still a great shot of him for we Carson fans.
Frank Sinatra doing Milt Larsens act.
Anyone recognize this guy? He looks familiar to me (there are a boatload of snaps from what appears to be the 1952 PCAM Convention in Long Beach, CA).
A Second Deal from 1939. I wonder who this might be (his thumb looks longer than my middle finger).
Dunninger described as a psychic.
Found these shots of Richiardis Sawing in Half:
The Sawing (gotta love the blood splatter on the backdrop).
Yummy!
Having a look.
Cleaning up afterward.
And finally, to see who is paying attention, a contest: The best caption for this shot will win a DVD. Heres mine (which I actually used several years ago when talking about my companys executives): Having run out of fingers, the executive committee contemplates their options while hammering out the annual budget.
No politics (besides being a no-no, its WAY too easy) and entries can be posted, emailed or PMed to me but I will share them if I like them (anonymity guaranteed if so desired). Good luck and have fun!

"I told you a group manicure was a dumb idea. Now we all have to wait for the polish to dry!"
(Jim, I swear I didn't cop your "group" idea. I saw it after I posted).

With Rith Hayworth as his assistant how could he not be anyone's favorite?

Indeed Bill, indeed; and there are many snaps of herbut not one in the buzz saw; I was disappointed by that. The buzz saw that Welles used to saw her in half is in the Copperfield collection. Theres a nifty souvenir!

Announcing a second contest (be sure to check the other one above); this one an identification contest. In this photo we see Long Tack Sam and others watching a gentleman in a dark suit performing a ball trick. Who is this gentleman? A DVD to the first correct answer. (You get a better look at him through some of the related photos that are available).

I believe that would be Louis McCord, aka Silent Mora.

That was quick. Yes it is Silent Mora. I didn't think it was that obvious (I didn't recognize him at first).
Congrats Frank! I'll PM you with a list of DVDs from which you can choose. It'll be later today. Thanks for playing!

Thanks Dustin. I had seen that photo previously. It was shown quickly in the documentary "The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam" by Ann Marie Fleming. Silent Mora wasn't identified in the film, but I thought at the time that it sure looked like him. The movie is pretty cool, too.

How about: Thing and friends leading the Hokey Pokey at the Addams family reunion.

Quite possibly Abel Maldonado AKA Senor Maldo, a fine gentleman who taught me the Balls and Net in the late 1950s.

The back end of the Long Beach (California) Municipal Auditorium where I spent many happy hours as a kid. It was torn down so the area could be "improved." Calvert worked there at one time and possibly Blackstone, Sr.

Kind of looks like Fred MacMurray to me. And that looks like William Larsen, Sr. standing behind him (and the lady might be Gerrie).

The fellow with the rabbit is film star Chester Morris. Pierre Cartier, shown performing at the night club in Morocco, is better know to us as Keith Clark.

This is the winner of the caption contest (LaryL: Jim PMed me long before you posted, so he didn't pinch your idea. Consider it a "great minds" thing).
Thanks for playing everyone.
Jim, I'll PM you with a list of DVDs from which to choose.
Thanks!
