Message from Gay Blackstone - TV taping

Postby Doug Thornton » November 16th, 2008, 12:58 pm

Couldn't find this in "Search" - it was posted on SAMtalk.

I would like to personally invite you and your families to join me for
a MAGICAL Television event!

With the success of the 2008 World Magic Awards,
Associated Television International, some of the brightest names in
magic and myself, the Executive Producer of this event,
are bringing to Television a 13 part MAGIC series airing on Fox
MyNetwork beginning January 2009.

This hasn't been done in several years and has the world of magic
buzzing. I would love to have you in the audience as my guest to share
this very special event.

The television tapings will take place November 18, 19 and 20 at
Renmar Studios in Hollywood - 846 North Cahuenga Blvd.
The tapings will begin at 7:00 pm - 9:15 pm but all guests should
arrive by 6:30 pm seating will begin at that time.
This event is for everyone, so please bring the whole family!

We will be having production assistants coordinating all invited
audience members when they arrive to the studio, but everyone must
enter from a very specific entrance. After you find street parking
(sorry, no lot! Please allow plenty of time to find parking)
then all guests must enter through the security gate on Waring Avenue
- see map below.
We will have production assistants lining guests up outside on the
sidewalk, and then
escorting you into the studio as it gets closer to show time.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Karen at Blackstone
Magik offices at
(909) 792-1227 or kbrownbme@aol.com .
She will answer your questions and get you all the information you need.

Have a MAGICAL day and I look forward to seeing you soon!

The same network airing the Masked Magician - the irony is thick ;-)

Thick it may be, but a series which showcases multiple magicians and does not expose is good news.

If a show that doesn't expose attracts more viewers than a series that does, the network suits will be more inclined to green-light non-exposure shows in the future and not those that feature exposure.

I'm sure there will be lots of reasons and debates as two why Gay would do this. No matter what claim is made its going to be because there is a buck in it. Its got nothing to do with saving magic or preventing exposure shows..it's about the buck .. pure and simple. The same thing goes with Val. He's not the evil magic exposure who does it for kicks... it's also about the buck. Neither of them really care about the exposure issue..as long as they can make that $.

Best,

Tim

So what if it's about a buck? Everybody has a right to make a buck. But if she makes a buck or two from a non-exposure magic show, then I say more power to her.
And, as has been mentioned already, if MyNetwork makes a few bucks off of it, then they would be more likely to air more non-exposure magic shows that they can make a few bucks off of.
I find nothing wrong with this and wish both parties the best in this hopefully profitable venture.

Gord,

I have no problems with anyone making a buck. Making it by screwing over your fellow artists like Val did... I do have a problem with that. Making a buck by playing ball with those who help Val screw the rest of us over... I have a problem with as well.

You see it differently than me. I doubt either of us will change the others mind so I'll just leave it at that. LOL

Best,

Tim

OK... so the initial shock has worn off. LOL

After some further thought I cant' see how more magic on tv is a bad thing. I guess I am for it after all.

Best,

Tim

Good magic on TV is GREAT news - big thank you to Gay for getting this off the ground ...

I hope this series is eventually made available on DVD ( it was such a pity that World's Greatest Magic was never released as a collectors box set )

Also and I could be wrong, but I believe that the show was sold to Mynetworks after Guy was already involved. She had nothing to do with who picked up the show.
