CNN "hologram" linked cameras and bluescreen

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

CNN "hologram" linked cameras and bluescreen

Postby Jonathan Townsend » November 5th, 2008, 9:27 am

Hi Folks,

Any thoughts on the linked camera setup and image inset technology used last night to permit what appeared to be direct dialog between people in different studios?

Yes, it's not holograms BUT it does permit realtime interaction with digital effects - tiny people, mythical creatures etc at least to the home TV viewer.

??? a new tool?

It's exactly how laymen already think certain types of illusions are done. You'll see TV magicians using it in the near future.

We blogged a couple of interesting articles explaining it. It isn't really a hologram as the reporter in the newsroom cannot see the "projected" image unless they look at the TV screen.

Sounds like it is not even that good as you have to look at a TV screen to see the image as opposed to a reflection.. so in my mind it's one step above green screen.
