November Issue of Genii Now on Its Way to You

Postby Richard Kaufman » October 15th, 2008, 9:11 am

Our November issue is in the mail, with a cover story on legendary Scottish magician John Ramsay that will please you greatly. The issue also contains a free DVD with Ramsay performing the Cylinder and Coins (and the routine itself is taught in the issue).

Does he acutally shake his hands after the fourth vanish saying "bet you don't know where the coins went - aye laddie" before lifting the cylinder?

The Ramsay magic section is 17 pages long: that constitutes our Magicana this month.

Yes, it's silent: shot in 1939. I don't believe that home movie cameras were not capable of capturing sound at that time.

Ramsey footage is silent one at full speed and the other at half speed. Cool dvd. It also has David Roth doing chink a chink on the dvd too. I found it kinda ironic for me because Ive been working on different types of matrixes since last week. I've been practicing Fernando Keops, Joe Rindfleichs and Michael Ammars who's handling is the same as Roth's, routines. But anyways cool dvd! Thanks Genii!

Michael Ammar simply performs David Roth's Chink a Chink routine (though he might do it with a shell--I can't remember, but that's something Roth purposefully avoided).
The trick is Roth's, not Ammar's. Same kind of confusion with Rollover Aces because Ammar has done it so much and gussied it up with presentation it doesn't require. The trick is Dingle's, not Ammar's.

Oh yea I know its Roths routine. I could've worded my post a little better but yea Ammar does do it with a shell and credits Roth in one of his videos. I also have been doing it without a shell.

The November issue arrived in Wichita, Kansas. Just watched the free DVD. What a treat to see John Ramsay, and the Fantasma segments are very enjoyable. Thanks to Fantasma, Roger Dreyer and Genii for this wonderful extra. And thanks to David Ben for the Ramsay footage. Can't wait to read Dr. Dawes' article on Ramsay. His scholarship is so valuable.

Hi Richard

I just received my November issue in Northern VA. A stone's throw from your offices!

Have you changed anything about the printing this month? It seems to be more vibrantly colored.

I watch a whole DVD that comes with Nov Issue last night. Nice magic stuffs but my question was... what's up with Fantasma Magic D D and what are they expecting from me and other deaf magicians? Is something we might need to know from them?
Thanks

I don't understand your question, Richard. I don't think they're expecting anything from deaf magicians. Do you mean that you wish their downloads had subtitles?

Hold on... I am at work (lunch break). Sorry that my question didn't get you. The first part of DVD has in the issue with explain on how the trick works. At the end, they were showing about their place. Those were not my question. My question on the other part of DVD, in there Simon Lovell was talking about (I assumed) the rest of magicians performing their magic. My question was... what did he say? One part he was acting like whispering which I assumed it's a important part. Actually, I lost everything that you, hearing, gain the benifit the "information". Sorry, I whine!
Thank you for your respond my previous post.
Looking forward your replies!
Again, thanks!

Simon was telling viewers that they can get a $2.99 discount on the digital downloads. I think you have to enter a code of some sort, but I can't recall what it is!

The November Genii arrived in Alexandria in today's mail. Absolutely fabulous!! Both the print about Ramsay and the DVD of him doing the coins and cylinder - definitely a magical highlight for 2008. Thank you Richard and congratulations on the 10th Anniversary.
