New Mark Lewis Book!

Postby Jolly Roger » September 30th, 2008, 10:48 pm

Has anyone yet got an official publishing date for Mark Lewis's "Lives of a Showman"? I cannot recall whether it was going to be later this year, or sometime in 2009. I think it sounds like it will be a most interesting read! JR

It will probably hinge on when the Moon aligns with Uranus and whether the date is numerologically congruent with Mark's Life Path Number.

Apparently these things are deeply important to Rev. Lewis.

Very profound, James. I am lead to believe that Mark's life's path number is 7, but I could be wrong! Do you realise that the stockmarket went down 777 points yesterday? Today it rallied 485 points. 4+8+5=17. 1+7=8. All most interesting! JR

MAIRZY DOATS by Milton Drake, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston
Copyright 1943 (Renewed) by Al Hoffman Songs

I know a ditty, nutty as a fruitcake,
Goofy as a goon and silly as a loon.
Some call it pretty, others call It crazy,
But they all sing this tune:
Mairzy doats and dozy doats,
And liddle lamzy divey,
A kiddley divey too,
Wouldn't you?
Well if the words sound queer,
And funny to your ear,
A little bit jumbled and jivey,
Sing, "Mares eat oats
And does eat oats,
And little lambs eat ivy!"
Oh! Mairzy doats and dozy doats,
And liddle lamzy divey,
A kiddley divey too,
Wouldn't you-oo-oo-hoo?

Wouldn't you?

Dear Jolly Roger

At present, Magicana still plans on publishing Mark's book. An official release date has not yet been set. Mark has already finished the first draft. I'm reviewing it, however, with the idea of prompting even more observations from him. You can be sure that when the book is ready to be released that Forum readers will be the first to know.

You can't publish all the classics Richard but you've had a number of them.

I think a book about Mark Lewis' life would be interesting and of value. I've found two things about Mark remarkable, one that he has had such a varied career in the art and second that he somehow ran into so many that didn't 'get it' on line when it comes to him. It isn't like he's Satan.

1. I doubt anything Mark has done on a forum could be construed as satanic.
2. With a name like Jerrine being mistaken for someone else has never been an issue.

I bit because the term satanic is a very strong one, not unlike child molester, murderer, the word used by rednecks to describe people that have black skin that the post Nanny censored or, well you get the idea. Just curious if there was anything to this name calling or just someone casually tossing around such a powerful description of a person, even if to describe Mark. I'll take the lack of serious response to indicate the latter.

Satanic is only offensive if you are religious (and of one of the various Abrahamic beliefs).

Child Molester, for one, is offensive to pretty much everyone.

Mark has a way of getting other people's goats.
Perhaps more accurate to use the term diabolical in that most folks don't enjoy finding out how far they are from their goat(s).

Although I eschew acquiring bootleg photocopies of published works because it cheats the author, I'd be willing to make an exception in the case of a book by Mark Lewis.

Yeah, let's all steal from him. That will teach him SUCH a lesson.

What a strange idea of justice...

Mr Lewis, you have been found guilty of gleefully winding up people on the interwebs. I sentence you to have your book stolen by some people.

I think it is an outrageous suggestion that is being made by that Dick Christian with regard to a bootleg copy of Mark's book. Not very Christian, if I may say so! Obviously he is interested in reading it, so I sincerely hope that he will cough up the lolly(British expression) for an authentic first edition of Mark's book like everyone else! I am sure that both Richard and David as pubishers are equally shocked by this suggestion! JR

I need goats to eat the plants on my property, doesn't matter to me if the horns are reversed or not. I think Richard has a wonderful sense of humor and I wouldn't prosecute him for suggesting someone is Satanic. I would like to officially, on my behalf, wish Mark great luck on his book. I do admit I'll be reading it backward should there be any hidden messeges about sacrificing virgins and the like.

The Wit was a collection of interweb posts by Mark that had been collated. This one is written as a book. The couple of extracts I've seen make for very entertaining reading.

It will be a substantial work. Mark has already written about 135,000 words which, if you have ever tried writing a book, is a fair amount of material for a memoir. The book is still taking shape, however, because I have placed certain demands on Mark as to form and content. He has been very good so far, meeting all deadlines and requests. If there is a delay in publishing it will simply be because I am occupied with several other projects. In the interim, I thank you for your interest in the book.

I would like to congratulate David on his confidence in Mark, and I have no doubt that this book will be a masterpiece! For the record, I have known Mark for over 40 years, although I have not seen him since we both left Great Britain..........Mark moving to Toronto, Canada, and myself to Phoenix, Arizona.

Mark and I used to sell Svengalis together, at places such as the Spring Show in Dublin and The Ideal Home Exhibition in London. I always got on well with the man who has great talent, and a wonderful mischevious sense of humour! He has a masterful way with words, which is obviously recognised by David Ben, and it is always curious to me that some people just do not seem to "get" him! I wish David much success with this project! JR

Some years ago, Mark Lewis came to Atlanta to perform at a small trade show. I went to see him -- he was doing the svengali pitch with a few blurbs about the company built into the patter. He drew quite a crowd.

Afterwards I took him to a local SAM meeting. He charmed everybody, performing his material for the club members as well as for some others in the restaurant. It was a great evening.

I've seen some of the mischief he created on the internet and understand why some people don't want him around. His style of interacting with other people online is nearly guaranteed to create strife. He sets a trap and if anyone makes the mistake of taking him seriously, they are in for a rough ride. He is the Phil Hendrie of the magic web.

I will buy the book.

For those who didn't get it - and perhaps because my comment didn't make it clear -- I'm not particulaly interested in Mark Lewis's book either photocopy or otherwise. My comment was made with tongue planted firmly in cheek as I thought would have been realized by those who have come across Mr. Lewis usually obnoxious posts on various other magic forums and newsgroups. Sorry for the delay in posting this note, but have been "on the road" and away from the Internet for the past couple of days.

Mark Lewis is the very definition of a "troll" on the Internet. That's why he's not allowed here. We've tried, believe me ... we've tried. And while he behaves for a week or so, there's always a melt down.

I have yet to read a post on a forum that had the power to reach inside my head and make one bit of difference unless i alone allowed it to, not to mention the obvious choice to decide what to read and respond to.
I must be in a very small minority that has control over their thoughts and actions or this Mark Lewis must be an all powerful mind gripping Swami of sorts that hasn't yet put the "Wammy" on me.
